Excerpt: I've used HP Printers for years, but the last (3) I purchased in January 2014 (HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401DNE Monochrome Laser Printer specifically) have all died or needed to be "retired." Printer #1 of 3: 4 weeks after purchase in January 2014 --Worked great until it made a terrible crunching noise. Spoke with Office Depot and they arranged for me to send it back and credited my account. The other 2 printers I bought on the same day still seemed to be working fine.
Cons: Quality, Performance, bad drivers, bad firmware
Excerpt: I am trying to replace my hp 2035 and thought this would be the next step up. This printer has problems printing on anything other than 8 1/2 x 11 regular paper. It might print once for you on an envelope but the next time say it doesn't recognize an envelope and just print on a piece of paper. Sometimes it will pull the envelope and it will just come out blank! I played with media type, media size on the printer and from the computer settings.
Cons: doesn't print on other media, tray 1 sensor has issues
Summary: I ordered 3 printers for our department in order to avoid replacing the "community" printer. We all LOVE these printers. In fact, I am order more of them today for other departments. We have not had one jam, error, or anything else happen - they simply print... every time! Best choice, especially for the money.
Summary: Issues This printer had issues before it even had printed 2 pages out of it. We had one hooked up at one workstation and we could never get it to work. We then ordered another one and we are still having major issues with the Firmware !! Windows 7 is not compatible..
Summary: Looked forward to a substantial, heavy-duty workhorse, like HP used to make, to help polish off a project over the holidays. Nope. The driver never loaded properly, and at first HP support told me the paper feed tray was sometimes finicky; if the paper guides weren't set just right, it would expect legal size paper (for example) instead of the letter-size that was actually there. Ok, fixed that.
Summary: HP's product range and model numbering system is ludicrously confusing. This is one of several models called Laserjet Pro 400 and it is one of several models called M401. This one is the M401dn -which is not wireless, only the M401dnw is wireless. So why they still think it's appropriate to emblazen the packaging and marketing with "Airprint" and "ePrint" and "Now print from virtually anywhere in the world" I don't know.
