Don't build them like they use to

Excerpt: I needed to buy a buy a new printer when I purchased a new computer as my work horse Laser Jet 5 didn't have drivers for Windows 7. Easy to install and operate. Prints high quality pages quickly. However, only after having it for 15 months, its in the repair shop and the techs are having troubles fixing it. Unlike my previous printer, this one is built rather cheaply and not built to last.
Pros: Easy to Use, prints quick quality pages
Cons: Does Not Meet Expectations, pricey toner that doesn't last long
Summary: I bought this as a replacement for my ancient Laserjet 1200 which gave out a year or two after I thought it was going to last forever. This one appears to be just as good; time will tell. It certainly prints much, much better. I like the one page at a time feed. My only complaints are 1) after you punch print on the screen you also have to punch the print button on the printer (this may be a setting; if so, I couldn't find a way to change it.
Summary: **Please Note: This printer can not be properly installed, and will not work as designed, without a unique USB cable attached (permanently) to the printer. One end is standard USB but the other has a small square end. Also, the description implies the printer might be wireless. It's not. It will not operate without a cable attached to it.
Summary: The instructions to install and make a wireless Laptop connection are not included with this printer. It took me three days to get it working using four different people in tech support to make it work by email printing. It does not print by wifi, contrary to what their description infers.
Summary: I have a very simple office environment and have used HP laserjet printers, or equivalent, for over 25 years. When this new printer arrived, the installation was pretty straightforward. THEN, I was asked whether I wanted a Basic setup, or the HIGHLY RECOMMENDED setup that would give me higher levels of functionality, etc., that required the accompanying disc to be inserted and installed.
Summary: Since we use the Ethernet connection I like the fact that the LCD screen shows the address in ready mode. This a great aid when doing setup. I setup and maintain the printers with the browser interface. We use several of these for printing A5 card stock on the factory floor. They do the job OK, but we do find the paper pickup assembly wears out twice a year. I think we ask a lot from such a small printer. Also loading the driver is easier that it used to be.
