Nothing but trouble

Anonymous, Newegg
30 March 2009
  • Summary: I should have known something was wrong when I bought this $900 printer for $450 (new). My HP 4000 printer from 1997 still works great...the 3005dn has major problems.
  • Pros: Looks great. Nice size, finish. Large paper tray, easy to operate menus.
  • Cons: Setup is lengthy and often doesn't find the printer. It worked for 3-4 months, then went into a kind of intermittent hibernation. Wouldn't setup as a USB printer, dropped off the network when setup as a network printer. HP support is not. Worst printer I've ever had.

Michael S., Newegg

  • Summary: We have 72 of these printers, We have replaced 5 formatter boards in less than a year, some are on recall some are not. Plan to spend 45-60 minutes of your time on the phone with tech support to get it replaced. If you use the later versions of the Novell Client it crashes when you print.
  • Pros: Fast printing, Duplexs, good web interface with built in NIC
  • Cons: Formatter boards are prone to failures, Driver issues with Novell Client.

Failed right out of the box

Green Pineapple, Amazon
27 February 2009
  • Summary: This model had a firmware issue (failure) right out of the box. Found on the internet that this is the case with this model. Wasted no time exchanging the printer. Purchased a P2015dn instead. Also bought a Kingston 256MB DIMM for $30 (not the $599 DIMM from HP). The P2015dn is working great...

  • Summary: I've had the printer for 3 weeks and it has been flawless. It does what it says. - I plugged it into my router and the printer was recognized immediately by my mac. - I upgraded the firmware to the most current available (a good idea in general for things like routers and printers) I have not had...
