C. Mack "C Mack", Amazon
17 September 2009
  • Summary: The printer is good, but it came with NOTHING ELSE. How do you expect me to hook it up or even begin to find cables?? Not very happy with this.

"Great Printer with duplexer, no Vista support"

cdoutre, CNET
22 January 2009
  • Pros: Fast printing, excellent print quality, automatic duplexer works great. I use the manual feed for #10 envelopes and it has never jammed for me.
  • Cons: No Vista support. This is a huge issue for me and HP was less than sympathetic. They said, "Buy a new printer." So I will, but it won't be an HP.

Mediocre at best

Luigi Snodgrass, Amazon
14 April 2007
  • Summary: Okay for printing on 8.5 x 11 paper. Standard input tray does not work for paper narrower than 8.75 inches wide. Paper guides on multipurpose input slot do not stay put, making it very difficult to print straight on other sizes of paper.

very disappointing printer

redtapegrrl, Amazon
2 February 2007
  • Summary: I do a reasonable amount of bypass printing -- checks, paper in different colors, envelopes. I should've read the "weak manual feed" reviews more carefully before buying this thing, but I was dazzled by the reasonably fast speed & dual-sided printing ability. I'm having the same problems as many others with the manual feed. Of every 10 envelopes I have to reprint 4, and roughly half the full size sheets print crooked or get wrinkled. This is not a high success rate.

"Printer ok, supporting software terrible"

robewright, CNET
21 August 2006
  • Pros: speed, print quality.
  • Cons: Significant incompatibility problems with Windows 2K and the HP PCL drivers. Simple installation still installs the Times Roman screen fonts which causes display problems with some applications.

HP Hates Mac

Hannah Holmes, Amazon
27 October 2005
  • Summary: HP doens't love my Mac. It often won't print at all unless I use the "print" command within the application I'm using - pdf reader, especially. Then, if I print from three different applications in one day, it gets all befuddled and freezes up. It's also prone to paper jams, somthing I never experienced with the free Epsons that usually come with MacMall Macs. The driver was very difficult to install. I had read about these problems, but thought folks were being fussy...

"Worse than the previous model. It is actually a downgrade from HP Laserjet 1300 or 1200"

freesushi, CNET
15 June 2005
  • Pros: Smaller in size and look nicer comparing to the previous model
  • Cons: Slower than the previous model. Maunal feed is a joke. Problem printing in smaller size paper such as envelope and business check.
