Summary: HP has a new beta driver posted for Vista users, but I'm on XP and have the same problem. HP doesn't acknowledge this problem on their site for this printer. I don't expect much from a cheap printer, but I draw the line at basic functionality, and expect better than this from HP.
Pros: Fast for a cheap printer, print quality looks good.
Cons: Prints vertical dashes on the side if you're printing any graphics. HP's workaround (which worked for me but doesn't for everyone) is to increase the print quality, which uses more toner.
Cons: NO VISTA DRIVERS!! You would think HP would make drivers for the OS which comes installed on almost all new computers but you would be wrong. They have a generic driver on their website but it doesn't work at all. I'm a very disappointed user.
Cons: the printer cannot work at all without a USB cable, so i have to go out to buy a USB cable in order to use it:( the HP company or the newegg.com should sell USB together with the printer or warn customers about this inadequency.
Summary: This is strictly a personal printer which can not be networked using any print server, including H-P's own print servers. H-P will sell you a $99 Wireless Printer Adapter Kit if you will need to share this printer in a home network (wireless or wired).
Summary: I've had the LaserJet 1018 for about 6 months. It's cheap small and looks nice on the desk. About a month ago the printer stopped pulling paper correctly and that's when all hell broke loose. I should have simply thrown the printer out. Instead, I did like most would do...
Summary: (I have a Packard Bell Athlon 2600XP running Windows XP SP2) The printer would only print one or two pages of any 10+ page job, and then refused to work. Tried to print from different programs: nothing. I must have reinstalled it 10 times or more using different drivers & settings.
