Summary: From the beginning, it would not print well. I could not use the toner saving position because you couldn't read it if you did. I contacted HP and got nothing from them. Before when a printer was bad, I would just contact the mfg and they would send another one at no cost. I'm still trying to use this piece of junk. The only time it will halfway print right is when you first turn it on.
Cheap, Good when it works but NOT for REGULAR printing

Summary: I have this printer for a while now. I bought it from newegg.com for $50 and this is the worst printer I have ever had ( I had quite a few over the years mostly because I moved around a lot and it's way too much work to bring all these printers). I had brothers, canon, and lexmark. I also have another HP (all in one inject printer) to supplement this laserjet. Problems: 1.
Summary: I've had this printer for a couple of years now. It's worked with multiple computers but when it comes to it and Windows 7 the print quality starts getting lighter and lighter. I've got it off economode and clear up on max density but it's still printing text really light. It hasn't printed pure black in 6 months. I can actually see the dot pixelation so I know it's a pixel issue versus the toner is applying light.
Summary: I have had this printer for about a year and a half now. Bought it when I went off to college. When I was using vista before on a different laptop, it worked perfectly! No complaints. Then I switched to a new laptop with windows 7, and nothing except .txt files print (i.e. notepad). Nothing else works. Neither word or pdf, which I use greatly in school.
Summary: I have purchased many HP laserjet printer for my office works. I have used many LaserJet 1010, 1012, 1020 & P1006 SO far i notice a huge difference between 1020 & P1006 PROS: For documents both product nice crispy prints & fast printing CONS: bad for picture quality For simple picture, photos, graphics LJ1020 print much crisp & darker. Where P1006 print way lighter (too light to see) I have change new cartridge and yet still produce same very light picture quality.
Summary: Over time, I found that this printer would place a small black ink smear at the top of every page after it had been printing about 10 or 20 pages in a row. I thought it needed to be cleaned, so I tried to read HP's online cleaning guide. This guide suggested removing the "pickup roller," but the instructions did not accurately describe how to do this. In fact, the instructions incorrectly mentioned "tabs" that surrounded the pickup roller, though these tabs do not exist.
Summary: I got a Mac for my small business in the hopes of alleviating some of the computer problems I was having using a PC and Windows. I was so bummed to find my little workhorse of a printer- the HP 1020-was not Mac compatible. Because the 1020 was such a great printer, I had high hopes for the P1006, especially since it was the "newer model." This printer has been nothing but trouble!
Summary: After a bad experience with a two Samsung printers, we decided to pay extra for HP. I purchased two P1006 printers. Issues: 1) Toner capacity is not what we expect compared to Brother, Samsung or other HP printers. This effectively doubles the cost per page. 2) The cartridges for this model seem more prone to producing dirty or uneven printout than others - whether this is a cartridge or printer issue is moot - you just have more issues.
Summary: Bought this printer TWICE (one used here on Amazon, and one open box from a store) and neither worked. Poor design all around. I bought the 1606 instead. Hopefully that's the more durable one of the current HP's. Thought this would be a good "speed increaser" over my old warhorse 1100's, but it's a flimsily-made step down instead. ***THE HP 1606 WORKS GREAT - GO FOR THAT INSTEAD IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A <[...
Summary: I've owned laser printers from HP, Canon, Oki, Brother, Lexmark, and Samsung. Without a doubt, this printer is the worst. Most of the time, it refuses to print. Sometimes it'll flash it's little orange light for not apparent reason. Other times it just sits there. In any event, it only prints 1 in 10 times I try. The HP drivers don't tell you what's wrong (and I've tried on both Windows and Mac OS X 10.6). Don't buy this thing.
