HP Deskjet D2430

mhoppal, ReviewStream
23 December 2009
  • Excerpt: The HP Deskjet D2430 is a standard, color, low-quality, and discount printer. I made the original purchase at Big Lots one year ago when it was on sale for $20 - about the cost of an ink cartridge, which was not included in the original package. The printer itself has …

Nice and cheap

Ryan A., Newegg
24 October 2008
  • Summary: It is what it looks like. A $30 printer, don't expect photo quality printing but it works great for simple jobs.
  • Pros: Very inexpensive and I got free shipping. Perfect for my simple school printing.
  • Cons: Not the highest resolution and it is loud.

No black cartridge

Michael N., Newegg
8 September 2008
  • Summary: HP shouldn't be so cheap and they should give you both a color and a black ink cartridge. Either that or they shouldn't have the ink software constantly complaining that you only have one cartridge installed.
  • Pros: Good cheap printer.
  • Cons: Doesn't come with a black cartridge, and the ink monitoring software constantly pops up a window complaining that you only have one cartridge installed if you try to turn the printer off. The only way to suppress the constant prompts apparently is to never turn the printer off.

User Review

Jacob W., Newegg

  • Summary: For CUPS, even with the black cartridge installed you may need to enable it ("Printout Mode" in the web interface does the trick). Overall, a nice cheap printer for occasional use. You get what you pay for of course, but I was expecting the performance to be closer to as advertised.
  • Pros: Cheap; small; elegant. Completely supported in CUPS (Linux) as are basically all HP printers (through hplip/hpijs).
  • Cons: No USB cable. No black cartridge included - what were they thinking? Get one if you want your blacks to look at all decent (HP #21). Can't take discrete color cartridges - if one color runs out you have to replace them all. 12.5ppm is an outright fabrication. A page with a small amount of text to...

Best Bang for the Buck!

Kit C., Newegg
3 August 2008
  • Pros: 25 bucks. If it lasts 6 months; it will owe me nothing. Color printing is better than I expected or desired. I'm blown away at the quality of this printer for the price I paid.
  • Cons: It didn't come with a black cartridge. I don't know if that's normal. It also didn't come with rubber stickers or "feet," so it slides around a bit. That wasn't hard to remedy, and again, for 25 bucks...

WARNING! DO NOT BUY FROM HERE

Hyun Joo Kang, Amazon
29 July 2008
  • Summary: I was planning to buy this printer from Amazon for 45 dollars. All good and well. The supplier was Skybox USA. But then, one week later, after I added it to my cart, lo and behold, it wouldn't move from my "saved items" to my actual shopping cart.
