Summary: We have used this printer for years at work and have never had a problem. It does great work and the ink lasts a decent amount of time. Plus you can print up to 13x19 prints on it which can come in handy.
HP9800 / Pure Ignorance & pre-planned obsolescence
10 June 2013
Summary: I have owned this HP9800 unit since new. The unit is exceptionally erratic. Sometimes it prints 90% of the poster then just decides that it is done. I have found the ink to be exceptionally expensive. just a handful of posters and $80 in ink later, its begging for more. The option of getting after market inks has been ripped from this model too, it recognizes the cartridge and stops all functionality.
Summary: This is the 3rd HP Deskjet 9800 Wide Format Color Printer I have bought. I can no longer find them in stores, so when the one I'm using stops working, I buy another one. We have a mechanical engineering business and we supply our customers Tabloid sized color prints of the parts we supply. I am also an artist and this printer fits all of my needs.
Summary: I have had this printer for 4 years. I repaired it once by myself. It has serious software issues which are OK considering my limited printing personal use. However I am very indignant about something that I qualify as fraud by HP. The printer suddenly stopped working and did not respond anymore. My research indicates that printer has a built in bug in the ROM that disables the device after certain period of time or number of prints.
Summary: This is the second printer of this model I have owned. It is perfect for my needs. Prints large formats, easy to refill cartridges, two-sided copies, nice print features for every paper type and weight.
Summary: I've had this printer for seven or eight years now, and I have wanted to throw it off the top of a high-rise building nearly every time I use it. The only reason I haven't is that I had already spent so much money on it. I absolutely HAVE to be able to print tabloid size color photo quality prints, and there wasn't much on the market at the time that wasn't professional grade and therefore professional priced.
Summary: I love the feature of printing with no bleed and large format. I can print poster size edge to edge with this printer. The quality is excellent for a inkjet. I also tried with a photo paper and happy with the result.
Summary: I PURCHASED IT TO DO BANNERS BUT IT NEVER WORKED FROM THE BEGINNING I AM SURE IT WAS GOOD WHEN IT WAS NEW BUT NOT NOW. This was a used product that should never have been sold. It's usefulness went out the window a long time ago. As it is, it is laying in parts on my back porch, as I just destroyed it just prior to typing this review.
Summary: I bought this printer in 2008 (four years ago) because my boss owned one and it had always been reliable and easy to use. She used hers for printing hundreds of multi-page, full-color newsletters and brochures. I was immediately impressed with the color, the speed, and most of all the fact that I could easily create the custom size I wanted, hit print, and leave the machine running without worrying about paper jams or crooked printing!
Summary: junk just does not work or doesnt work at all- inslation was hopeless its very old HP does not give free online services. the serial number i gave to hp they dated it over 14 years old to the curent date of 8/27/2012 dont by this printer--
