Not great

sharon2893, Ebay
23 November 2014
  • Summary: the printer does work, however, there was black ink everywhere. I don't know where it was coming from as there were no cartridges in it. It was quite a mess even getting on the carpet in my office. I really didn't think it was going to work but it does. I still don't know where all the black ink came from. Am not happy about that.

  • Summary: Works great, just like new. I had one and liked it. When it broke I did not want to have to get use to another.

I couldn't believe my printer find!

telephony1, Ebay

  • Summary: This printer is a real workhorse, the one I had finally gave out and was in deperate need to replace it without upgrading my operating system. The software was already in my computer...so all I did was plug it in. I'm going to get another one for a back-up....

Excellent Printer

usmcfam, Ebay
11 December 2009
  • Summary: We bought this printer because our other one finally broke down. We really loved our HP 840c, It is a real work horse. We had our other one for maybe 10 or 15 years and it gave us such good quality printing and kept on going. We had some all in one printer, fax, copy, machines but they have had short life compared to the HP 840c. Would recommend this printer to anyone.

Inaccurate description, no such printer model exists

  • Summary: This printer model does not exist. The seller misrepresented the item they were selling, and then added a stock photo of a printer that did not have clear details. Do not buy this product, no such printer exists!

great for normal house printing and it will last ages

  • Excerpt: My family have had the HP DeskJet for more than 10 years now and it has been through a huge amount of printing, either black and white or colour, and it is still working fine. We only got the printer, I do not know why there is also a scanner on the photo since you could buy just the printer back then. Anyway, let's go back to the printer. The design is very convenient, the size was perfect to fit in my desk next to my computer since it is quite thin.

Quality, reliability and Value

  • Excerpt: Prior to purchasing my own Hewlett Packard DeskJet 840C I ran a DeskJet 693C with an older computer and was thoroughly impressed with it. When it came to choosing a new printer to take to University with me I once again opted for a Hewlett Packard product and am not sorry I did. When making the choice I weighed the HP840C against two other options at similar prices: The Epson Stylus 670 and Canon's BJC-1000.

  • Excerpt: This is one of the best Deskjet printers that HP has ever made. OK, it is not state of the art printing for nowadays, but I have customers that still have this printer in good working order after many years of duty. If you can get hold of a new one, buy it.

  • Excerpt: I trust HP so when I needed a new printer the 840C was a natural choice, being the latest at the time. It has been great!! Never any problems, perfect text and beautiful photos. The cartridges last a long time, giving super results. Would recommend this printer to anyone. So if you want a totally reliable, superb printer for a very reasonable price, which will give you years of service, buy this one.

they don't make them like they used to

  • Excerpt: I bought my first printer back in August 2000, took it home, set it up in my desk and left it there. Five and a half years later, April 2006, it is still working like it did the day I bought it. Using HP's #15 and #17 cartridges, this printer is becoming a liability because there are very few people who carry this series of cartridges. I have not purchased any other printer for my own use, and it is the most stable piece of hardware I own.
  • Pros: extremely durable
  • Cons: ancient  -  hard to get cartridges
