Summary: I bought this product because I have a similar model in the HP line, and I am pleased with it. It uses ink conservatively, and is sturdier than most printers. Another concern: ink-jet cartridge compatibility. Having two devices using the same cartridges -- black and color -- simplifies reserve-stock purchases. things. (I also results in less waste when a printer dies.) HP no longer makes models in this line, however, which complicated things.
Summary: The 6980 is a nice machine which I've had for a couple of years now. It prints nice and fast on fast draft and hasn't given me any trouble, despite lots of use. I don't know of an HP printer that doesn't move through a healthy amount of ink, but this printer is as reasonable on ink cartridges as I've come across. I wouldn't print family keepsake photographs on it or anything, but it's great for everyday and business use.
Summary: Does excellent when working with pictures. Thats about all I use it for is pictures and it seems to really do the job well. Although its a little 'slow' it does excellent pictures. For regular jobs like office paper work its great too, and a lot more faster. I do recommend you use the HP 99 INK when doing printing pictures with this unit/printer.
Summary: Was replacing one we have been using daily (and extensivly) in our lab for the last 5+ years. Have them all over the plant and they are real work horses. JUST DO NOT BUY CHEAP REPACKAGED INK!! The old one was destroyed by repackaged ink cartridges leaking all over inside it. GREAT PRINTER!
Summary: I've had this printer for 3 years and it has NEVER failed on me. First of all, I print mostly documents and this printer has fairly large black cartridge. I've been using re-manufactured cartridges for this printer for a couple of years and they seem to work very well, so basically this printer has virtually no maintenance cost for my usage ($12 for a black cartridge, yields 1000 pages).
Summary: I currently own several HP printers that I use at home. HP deskjet 6980 is a very good printer. It gets the job. This printer was purchased to replace the HP deskjet 6980dt (double tray) that I was starting to have problems with. So set up was quick as computer recognized printer and created another profile with same driver. I do not use the wireless features so can not comment on their usefullness.
Summary: I've owned this printer for 2 years and have had few problems. I use it with the duplex unit for double-sided printing of technical materials. I've only occasionally used it for photographic quality printing. In that case the quality was good but the configuration of borderless printing didn't work properly. One important point to mention is *not* to use 3rd-party ink cartridges. I once replaced the black HP96 cartridge with Staples HP96-"compatible" black.
Summary: I had this Deskjet 6980 wireless printer up and running wireless in short order. Works great with both my Toshiba laptops with Windows Vista with sp1 installed. I did use the installation disk. I did have a problem on only one laptop with the install disk, for some reason the laptop would not read the CD? I transferred the CD to a usb flash drive and run the install from it.
