Summary: I have had this printer for 4 years now and it still prints perfect. I have used photo gloss paper, thick paper and thin paper. I have never had a problem with this printer. I have bought expensive printers and none have printed like this little one. I have no idea why this printer has 2 stars. I love this printer, while other printers i have had mess up this one is still kicking. I use this printer for small prints.
Summary: It worked well as soon as I received it, although I did have to put in a new color cartridge before I could print photos. That was not a real problem because I bought it specifically because I wanted a printer that used the same cartridges that I already had.
Summary: A previous poster had the gall to refer to the negative reviews as coming from "ignorant people". That takes some chutzpah, I think, because I must be one of those "ignorant people", then: The HP 3940 is very cheaply made, which is why it retails for so little -- and which is why it is so unreliable. I have experienced many if not all the same problems as the other posters here (I didn't read all of the reviews), both with this printer and two similar ones (all HP).
Summary: This printer is a piece of junk. It repeatedly jams, declares low ink levels for full cartridges, and creates very poor quality printing even when it does work. Avoid this piece of garbage at all costs. The only reason I gave this thing one star was that I couldn't give it no stars. A typical HP printer, it's only another way for them to suck up money from you for their overpriced ink jet cartridges.
Summary: Unfortunately, I inherited oversight of 8 HP Deskjet 3940's. HP has 2 goals in printers of this type. First, this unit is designed to provide decent print quality and last only 1-2 years. Secondly, they want to derive as much revenue as possible with inkjet replacement cartridge sales.
Summary: I have had this printer for a while and we have probably spent more on ink than on the printer, don't buy this printer unless you absolutely can't afford a laser, which will get you a whole lot more prints per cartridge.
Summary: I purchased this printer about a year ago because it was so inexpensive and I had light printing needs: a few homework assignments, driving maps, a photo now and then. Boy do I regret it - and I am writing this review to warn others from buying this poor quality product. Although some of HPs higher end printers (for businesses) work great, I recommend you stay away from this model unless you want to deal with these headaches: * spending a LOT of money on ink and running...
Perfect Low Cost Printer W/ Fast High Quality Prints
6 February 2008
Summary: This printer (almost identical to the 3930V & D1455 with the exception that it is all white with no gray highlights) is an excellent buy if you just need a no frills color printer. Prints excellently, takes readily available cartridges, and comes with cartridges too. This printer is relatively fast & certainly compact. It looks attractive on your desk especially with white iMacs or Macbooks, iBooks.
Summary: Printer purchased one year ago. In addition to paper jams, the black ink cartridge has not lasted more than 2 months, less than 100 pages. Print quality is horrible. Lines are skipped and some lines appear to be in bold and others not. Usually this means it is time to change the black ink cartridge. It is hard to believe that printing on the most economical setting still requires 6 ink cartridges per year.
