Summary: We have this printer at work. You have to purchase 4 ink cartridges(black, cyan, magenta, yellow) - they are expensive (around $250 each unless you buy a knockoff) but worth it in terms of printing quality especially color. I rarely get problems. I have not used it using different paper (Card stock etc).
Summary: I don't review a lot of stuff.... in fact very seldom do I review anything. But, this morning I was moved to review the HP LJ 4700 when I printed out the "Usage Page"; Wow. The report says we've run 229,567 letter sized sheets through this printer since we started using it some 5 or 6 years ago. All of the paper that goes through it is 85 pound stuff used in mailings, and all of the printed materials are color.
Summary: I have had the printer for a few months and have yet to get it to work with Windows 7. It has a low page count and the reason is that in the past it has jammed a lot according to the "event" sheet. I have been able to get it to work with my iMac computer but I can't get it to choose between letter and legal size paper which would not be an issue for people that didn't need the legal. When I tried to use the duplexer it jammed every time.
Summary: I love this printer. Immediately after hooking it up, I networked it and printed several eight-page front-to-back color documents with photos. The documents took about 45 seconds each to print, from mouse-click to last page. That's quite speedy for a color duplexer. I'd recommend this to anyone.
Summary: We have three of these printers in our offices. They are reliable, dependable, and quick. The ink cartridges last a long time. The only downsize is the printer is big and heavy. Excellent for text, reports, newsletters, where multiple copies are required.
Summary: This printer replaced our HP 4100 which was a BW printer. Speed and quality is very good and for us, the price of a lightly used printer was less than the cost of a toner cartridge for the 4100. The toner cartridges on the 4700 isn't inexpensive, but the generic cartridges have worked out very well for us.
Summary: We have this printer and have been impressed overall. One thing to note however--HP has purposively not allowed the user to set printer settings to greyscale in order to try to get you to use the [more expensive] color ink. So if you want to print in black and white, each time you print you have to open up the printer setup and change it to "print in greyscale".
Summary: Comments about HP Laserjet 4700n: This color laser scanner has a very unique look it. It’s tall but makes a great space saver! It was easy to set up and works very fast for being so quiet. I’m use to those old loud machines so I am very impressed. I was able to print out 32 pages a minute and the quality is very attractive.
