Don't use 3rd party toner cartridges or refill kits
27 September 2014
Summary: This printer I would not buy again. There are a few things to be aware of. First of all absolutely do not use 3rd party vendors for toner cartridges. They will ruin your printer. At least that is what happened to me. I tried a refill kit and an already filled cartridge and both caused major problems (streaking, color printing on B/W print) and basically ruined the printer. That gets me to my next point.
Summary: Endless Toner issues and streaking. Defaulting to print with blank ink toner works for a while when you have empty color toner cartridges. Wanted to print with only Black toner again when I ran out. Replaced black toner used the same Overide Out setting but colour toners engaged and chromatically streaked every document I attempted to print. Frustrating beyond words.
Summary: I have had this printer for about 2 years. It was used as an office printer for printing colour (pictures including thumbnails, colour brochures, colour manuals). I connected to the printer through the network port, but switched to USB for convenience (network was never set up properly and settings were always changing). The printer worked well initially, although saw little use. Over the last two months, it has totally malfunctioned.
Summary: I see reviews on the HP 2605dn printer are highly mixed, so just want to note that ours still works like new after five years of heavy home office use. The duplexer works well. The color prints are good enough to hang on the wall as photographs. And thanks to the hint about overriding the setting that prevents printing more than the official number of pages per cartridge (explained by "Carlos" in another review, we replace our cartridges only half as often.
Summary: I had purchased the worst laptop in the world (HP Pavilion 8800 or 8080) and then this printer because I was an HP shareholder. While the HP laptop was the worstestest device any company on the planet or this side of the solar system ever made (besides some Dells), the HP seemed to work quality was just dreadful as time went on. Add me to the hundreds if not more online you will find who took good care of this printer and got the Error 79 failure, rendering it useless.

Summary: I would bet that all of the good reviews on here are fake and planted by a marketing company because this is the biggest piece of junk I have ever thrown my money away on. If you print a graphic with a solid color area, the ink flakes off and smears all over the paper. It does it all over the paper, not just a little bit. I have tried everything from changing the ink cartridges to changing all the settings in the printer driver that could possibly affect the outcome.
Summary: The quality is great. The output... very slow. The case is built to old-style H-P standards: Like a tank. Works beautifully with a network via Ethernet plus a USB 2.0 connection. Now, the big problems: 1. A web search will reveal that after a while, the Magenta color "fades" and shades of red become shades of orange. Something to do with the reflective mirrors sending information to the lasers.
