Scanner won't work if ink is low. Someone please explain that to me.

Summary: I love this printer because it does everything I need. I don't do a whole lot of printing — when I do it's mostly to CD/DVD — but I do a fair amount of scanning. Quality on both printing and scanning is decent. Also, the wi-fi capability allows me to use it from any computer, and I love that.
Summary: Piece of Junk- Don't buy this printer. Very expensive cartridges...and they constantly run out. I printed about 20 single space 1 page letters with a new black cartridge,,, and already out of ink.
Summary: I wish I could give this printer -5 stars. As my 12 year old daughter put it, "there is ALWAYS something wrong with the printer." It uses 5 different ink cartridges and when I say "use" I mean drinks like a parched camel.
Summary: This is a terrible printer, it only lasted a good solid 3 months before it started having problems. The ink cartridges were always having problems and had to have the printer 2 times. It's a total waste of money not worth purchasing at all. Only if you want headache after headache.
Summary: Worst printer I ever had. Uses ink like crazy. I only print in black & white but my color cartridges went empty. Will not print without them. Checked with customer support & that is correct. Needless to say, I bought a Brother black & white laser printer. Would never buy an Epson product again.
Summary: I never comment but feel compelled to do so. LIke many others, I soon realized that the ink ran out SO fast, and it will not print (or even scan for that matter!) if any of the cartridges is out. Even when the cartridges are full, the printing seems poor and has weird color issues.
Summary: This printer lasted for 16 months before dying. In it's death throes it slurped up (or thought it did) almost $100 worth of ink. Fortunately I had bought an extended warranty. If you want to buy one of these things, be sure to buy the extended warranty.
Poor Design Creates Inconvenience and Many Ink Cartridge Purchases

Summary: I am very unhappy with this printer and could not in good faith recommend it to anyone. Most of the other reviewers on Amazon complain about its primary drawback: when it runs low on any one type of ink (which, frankly, does not take very long), it prevents you from printing anything until that ink...
Summary: This printer was highly rated when I purchased it in January of 2013. Since then, ratings have dropped. After my experience, I know why. When I received the printer my computer connected with no problems. After using the printer a few times the problems started. First, it guzzles ink.
Summary: This is by far the most frustrating printer I have ever used. The low ink warnings are annoying and, in some cases, it will not allow you to print a black and white sheet because one of the color inks is low. I am switching back to my 10 year old HP printer. What a waste of my time and money.
