Crippled RIP: Just buy std edition & separate RIP

Shankar Ramamoorthy, Amazon
12 October 2014
  • Summary: The only difference between this and the standard edition is a bundled RIP - EFI eXpress. So this review is basically about the RIP. The RIP is minimally useful: yes it will process Postscript & represent the printer as a virtual Postscript printer to applications.

What a terrible paper loading system that never works!!!

Kemal Ayyildiz, Amazon
16 September 2014
  • Summary: Terrible paper management. I have been using this printer for years. Terrible paper loading. If you do not wish to keep trying to load paper, beware of Epson. Canon is the way to go.

Didn't work and truly terrible epson support

M. L. Wolfe "wordgirl", Amazon
13 February 2013
  • Summary: I've been working with an hp pigment printer for several years but wanted a larger format and after much research, chose this epson. While I was prepared for the flimsy plastic, it was still somewhat shocking that such an expensive product would feel no better than a $100 printer. But ok.

  • Excerpt: I am not happy with the recent quality of Epson wide carriage printers. the 3880 is the 4th that I have owned. right out of the box I get two problems. the first is a head alignment which gives a paper sensor error, load correct paper. i am using the paper that Epson sent.

  • Pros: Beautiful Output
  • Cons: Flimsy Construction, Jams Easily, Slow Print Time, Too much ink used, Unreliable

  • Excerpt: There are inadequate directions to connect this to a Mac Lion computer and I have not been able to do so as of yet. I have installed it, but can't get a test print to look remotely like a color printer.

  • Excerpt: Had carefully unpacked, installed ink cartridges. Printer was charging when some part below the print head (a webbing of plastic and foam), evidently came loose. Print head slammed against the part and snapped it into three pieces.

Short life span

JeffN, Amazon
30 August 2011
  • Summary: Before it died, this was an excellent printer. But my experience with two printers; a 3800 and a 3880 is they have a short life span. I purchased a 3800 (new) and paid for the extra 3yr extended warranty. It was a $1200 printer so I thought it was worth the extra for the extended warranty.

Search for 150C Service Call before buying this printer.

Greg Miller, Amazon
30 August 2011
  • Summary: This is a really nice printer when it works, unfortunately that's not very often. My advice is that you use your favorite search engine to search for "150C Service Call" before buying this printer.

Epson 3880 pin wheel holes in your prints !!! Nightmare !!!

TheeBigGuy, Amazon
30 August 2011
  • Summary: Look it up on the internet before you buy this printer. When feeding paper from the rear you will get small holes the entire length of your photo. If the photo has a lot of heavy dark regions it shows up even more...
