Epson 3880 pin wheel holes in your prints !!! Nightmare !!!
17 February 2014
Summary: Look it up on the internet before you buy this printer. When feeding paper from the rear you will get small holes the entire length of your photo. If the photo has a lot of heavy dark regions it shows up even more... A shame because the printing quality is spectacular, but the tiny little holes destroy the value of your print... Take a flashlight and hold it from the side of your print and the holes will show up...Epson is very well aware of this and have done nothing...
Summary: I give the product a fail, out of the box and a lengthy set up effort, it indicated the magenta cartridge is empty. I have to go through a complex effort to get it to open the print door, then reseat the cartridge, it works until the next time. So far the mar gent cartridge has blocked four power on cycles and now one of the #3 cartridge is doing it. The printer insists they are empty, no such thing as a clean power up.
Summary: Just purchased and installed and the Epson printer utility crashes with Mac OS X 8. Unbelievable that such a supposedly quality product doesn't work with an operating system with a huge installed base.
Summary: Before it died, this was an excellent printer. But my experience with two printers; a 3800 and a 3880 is they have a short life span. I purchased a 3800 (new) and paid for the extra 3yr extended warranty. It was a $1200 printer so I thought it was worth the extra for the extended warranty. After 3yrs and 8 months the printer started dumping 1 inch long by 1/8 in wide black ink blobs, and the Photo Black cart on the LCD read 90% full when the cart was actually empty.
Summary: I've been working with an hp pigment printer for several years but wanted a larger format and after much research, chose this epson. While I was prepared for the flimsy plastic, it was still somewhat shocking that such an expensive product would feel no better than a $100 printer. But ok. I made about ten letter size prints and saw no discernible improvement over my hp. And I am very picky,so this was also a bit disappointing. But, again, ok.
BEWARE of PIZZA WHEEL MARKS! on all gloss and semi gloss paper
13 December 2012
Summary: I just got off the phone with Epson Tech Support, and I am shocked to learn that they have known about an issue where the printer wheels cause Pizza Marks on gloss and semi-gloss paper. I have googled this issue, and I am dismayed to discover that this has been a known and ongoing issue for which there is no fix other than using only matte paper.
