Great Entry Level Professional Printer

Mark D., Newegg
29 December 2008
  • Summary: My main issue with the ethernet was inconsistent print speed, either really fast or really slow, I eventually figured out the "slow" times often involved one or more of my teens gaming on the network.
  • Pros: I have been using my 3800 to make prints of my paintings and photographs for sale. With a little experimentation I have used media ranging from 5" x 7" to 17" x 25", all of the Epson paper media produce outstanding results. I have had mixed results with Moab sheet canvas but some of the giclee's ...
  • Cons: Does take a while for the first set of cartridges to prime afterwards changing ink is pretty much plug and go. I've had some headaches trying to use it on my small home network, it does have an ethernet port, but works just fine through my USB 2 port. It can be a little fussy feeding some papers ...

Outstanding Printer

James L., Newegg
2 September 2008
  • Summary: Don't get this if you are to lazy to learn the proper way to use it. You'll get good prints right out of the box but take the time to learn how to use it and you'll be rewarded with wonderfully rich prints.
  • Pros: This is simply one of the finest printers for photographic output to hit the desktop market. It is simply outstanding. If you take the time to learn how to use it you will not be disappointed. I have never had a clog - even after leaving it off for over a month. My prints on fine artists paper ar...
  • Cons: If you take the time to learn how to use it properly there are none.

Fine Art Photographer

Monochromes, Amazon
13 April 2008
  • Summary: I'm a Fine Art Digital Photographer, not a techno geek to make it plain to those reading my assessment of the Epson Stylus Pro 3800. Since getting into the digital arena and printing my own images, I've been with Epson exclusively.

Brilliant Printer

Jeffery S., Newegg
30 March 2008
  • Summary: Epson just released beta drivers for Leopard. Available on the site. Would be nice to see a bulk ink system available. Lyson was working on one, but it's not out yet.
  • Pros: I did A TON of research before buying the 3800, and will echo what many others have said. It does a beautiful job handling both color as well as black and white. The front feed handles media up to about 1.3mm thick, which is really what sold me on it since I do a lot of mixed media work. Using th...
  • Cons: Really the only downside is the cost of the ink. I've also read stories that the printer will say a cartridge is out of ink, yet there are still several ml left, though I have no first hand knowledge.

Excellent Printer Out Of The Box

K. Nowack, Amazon
17 September 2007
  • Summary: The 3800 was my first printer. Made first rate prints right out of the box with Photoshop C3. You need to play with the platen gap to prevent banding on some of the papers, i.e., premium glossy - use "wider". Front door over output tray is the cheapest thing I've ever seen on an object over $100.

Great printer for large size paper

Jerald N. Cuckler, Amazon
17 September 2007
  • Summary: This has been the most reliable clearest printer I have ever owned. It is large, but it does handle 16x20 prints wonderfully. I really like the large ink cartridges, they last well. I have never had any fade out at the end of a cartridges the way I had with other printers.

Wonderful Printer

Howard C. Marks, Amazon
17 September 2007
  • Summary: I have used this printer for about 3 weeks. It is awesome, I love it. I am a photographer with experience doing B&W and color developing. This printer is a major advance. The large format creates such impact and the quality is so good that, for the first time, I am hearing comments like, "You can...
