The Luminous Landscape

  • Conclusion: The R800 is the lowest priced Ultrachrome printer ever. It is also the first Ultrachrome printer to deliver fine-art prints on both glossy and matte papers, thanks to the new Gloss Optimizer. Granted, the R800 only prints 8.5” wide. However, If you are interested in creating fine art prints for the lowest cost possible and do not mind being able to print letter size or 8.5 wide panoramas only, you owe it to yourself to take a closer look at the Epson R800.

Epson Stylus Photo R800

PC Magazine
28 January 2005
  • Excerpt: The Epson Sylus Photo R800 produces true photo-quality output. It also prints from standard business apps and on printable CDs and DVDs. The printer uses eight ink cartridges: cyan, yellow, magenta, red, blue, two versions of black, and a gloss optimizer cartridge. The red and blue inks yield a larger-than-usual color gamut, and the two versions of black—one for plain and matte paper and one for glossy—let it use black ink on all media, rather than mixing colors.

Epson Stylus Photo R800 Printer

PhotographyBLOG
21 February 2006
  • Summary: The Epson Stylus Photo R800 is the perfect photo printer. Well, almost. It quickly and easily produces stunning prints that are the match of any traditional photo lab, which will last in excess of 80 years when displayed correctly behind glass. It also completely solves the "bronzing" issue that affects the Epson 2100, allowing you to make gloss, semigloss and matte prints without any signs of this issue.

Epson Stylus Photo R800 review

expertreviews.co.uk
27 May 2005
  • Excerpt: Normal inkjets use a black ink plus cyan, magenta and yellow to create a range of colours. By interspersing dots of different colours, they can fool the eye into seeing millions of different shades and hues. Paler shades are difficult to reproduce, as the dots must be more widely spaced - making it easier to distinguish each dot. High-quality six-ink printers solve this problem by drawing lighter regions of a picture using paler versions of the cyan and magenta inks.

Epson Stylus Photo R800

PhotoReview
1 October 2004
  • Summary: Epson's Stylus Photo R800 is the first and only printer to combine a long-lasting pigment ink set with high gloss paper printing. It also has a higher colour gamut than most other Epson printers, regardless of their output size. The R800's body design is functional and it's very well built.
  • Pros: Long-lasting prints, Outstanding B&W and sepia output, Roll paper capable
  • Cons: Input feeder only accepts 20 sheets, No paper cutter for roll paper

Epson Stylus Photo R800 review

expertreviews.co.uk
9 January 2004
  • Excerpt: There was a time when six-colour printers were all the rage, but now they're rather passe. Epson's latest inkjet printer, the Stylus Photo R800, takes eight inks, but rather than opting for the regular half-strength photo options for the additional wells, it adds blue, red and matt black, along with a clear gloss that varnishes pictures printed on photo paper.
