Good printer if calibrated with a custom icc profile

Summary: I've had this printer for almost two years and have wasted a ton of ink and paper producing substandard prints. I bought a monitor calibration device, thinking perhaps that was the problem. The prints still were too dark and the colors were off. I downloaded icc profiles for the printer. Things only improved slightly. I was about to give up on it, but then decided to buy a Datacolor Spyder3Print to calibrate the printer.
Summary: I have used Epson Printers for years , and have had great success in my photo business using the 1270 and 1280 printers. They are consumer printers but have stood up well to the heavy usage that I subject them to, often running prints straight for days at a time. Now that the 1280 is out of production I decided to move to the 1400 for printing my smaller prints. The prints are slightly better than those off the 1280 and the Epson interface is easy to understand..
A good printer for Photgraphic prints - forget art prints though

Excerpt: "I bought my first machine and had success printing on high quality rag paper. At first I had success with my 6 or so shots of West Coast Canadian Mountains, from the highest peak in the range. I couldn't believe the beautiful results. However, using rag paper was not the kind of paper the 1400 was made for. It is a strictly photo paper finish printer and using heavier stock not only ate up lots of ink but also caused serious jamming problems. I bought ...
Pros: nice big prints - slow but excellent results
Cons: expensive ink - but in the high quality world of art the producer always has to pay for that quali
Excerpt: I recently bought the Epson printer. First of all it looks very sleek which is what attracted me in the first place. It is very simple to connect to the PC and it comes with the driver for older PCs, (newer PCs might be able to detect it automatically which just makes it even more efficient). As for printing quality, i would say it is very good. The colours make the picture look almost life like and the speed at which it prints is medium.

Summary: Hola.
