Conclusion: Few ink jets produce better-looking output than the Epson Stylus C86, especially for text. Performance is less than ideal, but not slow enough to be a major problem. And our rundown tests peg its cost per page as relatively low for both monochrome and color output.
Pros: Text rates as excellent. Photos are just short of excellent. DuraBrite ink is water-resistant once dry.
Cons: Plain paper with full-page or nearly full page graphics tends to curl. Slight banding in graphics in default mode.
Excerpt: The Epson Stylus C86 is the cheapest printer Epson makes for the Mac yet is £10 more expensive than our lower price limit. There are cheaper options available from the Epson stable, but there are no Mac drivers for them. The C86's design can hardly be called cutting-edge, but it's functional and won't look out of place on most desks.
