Summary: I got the Epson C84 with my Macintosh four years ago, and it was a pretty good printer. Then it stopped working. No ink comes out when it prints even though there is ink in the cartridges. I suspect it's clogged. Cleaning with alcohol did not help. And, I've always used Epson brand cartriges. I plan to replace it with an HP.
Summary: The real problem with this printer is that if any of its four cartridges is out, it won't print at all. I most of the times use black ink and hardly do any color printing, but during the process of cleaning itself it consumes color cartridges. When any of the color cartridges is out, no more even black printing. So it is really bad. Pinting quality, however, is fine.
Summary: First, I had Stylus C82 and it got clogged within 6 moths of purchase. Epson replaced it with new C84 ( 1 year warranty) and it worked pretty well for about a little over a year. Got clogged again and it is out of warranty so I'm out of luck.

Summary: After reading numerous other Amazon reviews. along with several newsgroup postings, I at least have the comfort of knowing that MANY people have the same tragic tale to tell about this printer that I have. (Okay, cue the violin.) The printer worked just fine for about a year and a half -- enough time for the warranty to expire -- then suddenly developed an un-uncloggable clog. The printer will not deliver any ink from the black cartridge.
Summary: Like others...black ink ran out.. I changed the cartrige it wouldn't print black any more. Did all the steps recommended by Epson. Even reloaded the software...still no printing in black. Called Epson...don't waste your time!!!
Same problem - shortly after warranty expired - failed print head

Summary: Same problem listed by others. Shortly after a year, the yellow just suddenly stopped working completely. No cleaning solution or similar remedies have worked. It printed great pictures UNTIL this happened.
Summary: Like many other reviewers, I was quite happy with my inexpensive C84 for about a year and a half, until the print heads got clogged with ink and failed. Both the black and yellow inks simply stopped printing one day, and no amount of cleaning or replacing cartridges helped. I finally contacted Epson support to see if there was anything else I could do, but repairs would have been more expensive than a new printer.
Summary: STATEMENT OF INTENT: Even though this printer is now 2 generations old (the C86 and C88 having been introduced), I thought I should write this review for reasons of record and posterity. THE STORY: I had owned an Epson C82 which, after a little over a year, wouldn't print black ink after installing a new black ink cartridge and running several print head cleanings. Thinking it was a fluke, I went out and replaced it with a new C84 model.
Summary: It's a decent little printer. When it prints. Which isn't often. I find it crazy that the printer tells me when it's out of ink. I think I can do a pretty good job of figuring out that myself. And when it says it's out of ink, it won't print anything, even with the other colors it's not out of. Not even when it's not really out of the color it says it is. There's only one reason for this: it's a scam.
Summary: This printer worked like a charm until the warranty ran out. Then the black ink head plugged, wouldnt clean no matter how hard I tried. Epson want $9.95 to talk to me. I did get online email support, and they told me its messed up and I can pay them to repair it. Its cheaper to buy a new printer! Now Im stuck with two new black ink cartridges I installed (thinking one must have been defective) that puts me out another $50. Forget Epson. Stay away from the C84.
