Canon Pixma iP4850: Nice printer

Gemjar88, Dooyoo
10 October 2013
  • Summary: I needed a new printer as my old one had about had it. After taking some time to look around i decided to go for this one as it also prints onto discs. the printer itself is nice to look at, and doesn't take up too much space on my desk. I currently have mine connected up to my Mac, which it works fine with.
  • Pros: easy to use, good quality and great for home use.
  • Cons: catridges are expensive.

Paper feed mechanism is rubbish

Mr. K. J. Santi, Amazon
26 April 2013
  • Summary: All the reviews, including those on Amazon rate this printer very highly. No issue with it installing on my PC, but I simply could not get the paper feed mechanism to work properly. It would either grind for ages and fail to grab a bit of paper, or it would try and pull 5 sheets through at the same time. Several hours were wasted adjusting, calibrating and the like to no avail. I gave up, reboxed it and went through the returns process.

Fantastic printer, lab quality prints with the right paper

A. Coleby, Amazon
17 September 2012
  • Summary: This is the best value-for-money printer ever, even cheaper than the IP4800, which I used to death. This time round I've bought two! Photos are amazing quality for personal use and with the right paper give lab prints a run for their money. Of course the ink cost is a big problem, so get chipped cartridges which are currently 2 sets for less than £10. Sure, Canon won't like it but your bank balance will.

Drinks Ink

A. Pilling "A Pilling", Amazon
6 August 2012
  • Summary: Although this is a good photo printer, for an every day printer it is useless. It cleans itself constantly, and the time (and ink)taken, 2 minutes or more is a pain when simple quick B & W copies are all that is required. I am now at the stage of using my old printer for everyday work and keeping the IP4850 just for photos.

Prints Away with Canon

VampirePr..., Ciao
29 December 2011
  • Excerpt: "...have a similar model the Canon MP210 which is somewhat a little dated now but very reliable so I wanted to purchase something on the same lines as so far I haven’t had any issues when it comes to Canon printers. I needed something that would work for his document work and for printing photo’s so this one really did tick all the right boxes for him. Setting this printer up is nice and easy and will auto detect on most PC’s only down side mine didn’t ...

Prints Away With Canon

VampirePrincess, Dooyoo
29 December 2011
  • Summary: I do a lot of work for my dad so when his printer packed up I went looking for another for him the same day. I wanted something cheap (as I was paying!) and cheerful that would do the job and easy to set up. Canon Pixma iP4850: 'Superb photo lab-quality printer with built in Auto Duplex print and Single Ink tanks. Print from your movies using Full HD Movie Print, or take control of web printing with Easy-Web Print EX.' What's in the Box?
  • Pros: Ease of use, Easy and fast to set up, Great print results
  • Cons: Pricey Ink, Large

Excellent printer but expensive ink

Rich, Amazon
21 December 2011
  • Summary: This is an excellent printer which consistently gives quick and clear prints, and never suffers from blocked nozzles like some of its competitors! Like its predecessor, an iP3000, I find the printing options and controls very convenient and straightforward. The double side option works well, and having a choice of two different paper trays means you can keep (for example) rough paper in one, and high quality paper in the other.

Top Class Printer

Pamela C. Brunning, Amazon
24 September 2011
  • Summary: I have used Cannon printers for a number of years. For my job they are great. I edit a magazine and need to print off high quality graphifics to assess page layouts and final magazine definiation. I have an allinone printer but only use it for scaning as the photo quality is not as good.

My new printer

J. H. Bowen "John G8DET", Amazon
12 September 2011
  • Summary: Hello, I have a HP895cxi, bought in 1998 and is associated with a Windows 98 machine. As I got on so well with this I felt attached to HP. My new computer was originally Windows XP and I provided it with a HP Business Inkjet 1200D (Duplex). This has printed out 32,000 pages but when I upgraded to Windows7, 64 bit it became unstable and is NOT supported by HP. After fighting this for 3 months I bought the Canon Pixma iP 4850 for a tremendous price.

Canon Pixma iP4850

Christopher W. Beckett, Amazon
22 August 2011
  • Summary: As good as the old Pixma iP400 in most respects , but I have not yet found out how to get it to print decent white in photo prints. Other management functions seem an improvement.
