Summary: I bought this Canon iP4000 printer because it has the following attributes: 1. It has five ink cartridges, BCI-6 BK, M, C, Y & BCI-3EBK which are easy to refill - they are transparent and have no chips. 2. The ink cartridges stand alone and share a common, replaceable print head. 3. The canon purge unit is better than any other ink-jet printer of similar vintage. 4. It is capable of printing on CDs & DVDs if equipped with a CD Tray. 5.
Summary: We had this printer for MAYBE two years when it just "stopped" working. It was a great printer while it lived. It did seem to got through a lot of ink, more than any other printer we've had. Anyway, as much as I loved the printer... there is no way I'd pay $325 for it (price when I posted this-4/12/08). I bought it for $209 in 2005. I don't think I'd spend $150 on it today. You could buy better pinters now for less.
Summary: I give up. It prints black text great, but there is no color at all. I've been through every diagnostic, every setting, re-installed the driver, checked the ink cartridges several times. Forget it. Grrrrr.
