Summary: I've had two of these babys for several years now and they never cease to put out great copy, whether b&w or photos. I have no idea why others are disappointed (probably the same dude) but mine work great and it's sooooo quiet. Do the print heads ever clog??? Sure, like all printers without built-in printheads in their ink cartridges (which cost way more). I had two HP's and they always printed poorly except on the HP high quality paper.
Summary: The paper never fed correctly. When I installed the printer, I felt that there was something not right with the print head. The print head would have to go thru a little warm up routine before each time it printed. But it printed well, printed quickly, but was noisy. So I never sent it back to the company from whom I bought it. I figured it was too much of a hassle. BIG MISTAKE!! 18 months later the black ink will not print. I have tried all the troubleshooting tricks.
Summary: If you read the other reviews for this printer, you'll notice that when this printer first came out, it got a bunch of great reviews. Now that it has been out for a couple of years, you will notice a bunch of bad reviews with the same complaint: the black ink stops working. It is a print head failure and the print head costs as much or more than the original price of the printer.
Summary: After 18 months fairly low-volume use at home, the printhead suddenly stopped printing black. It looks like an electronic failure in the head itself; it is not clogged, and has only been run on genuine Canon cartridges. When I bought this printer I was given to understand that the printhead was a consumable product, that it would last about 5,000 pages and that the cost would be around USD50 to replace it. Hah!. They sure were accurate about the lifetime. But the cost!.
Summary: I got a great deal on my S520. Only $60 after rebate and coupon. I took it to the 3 day NFDA convention in Vegas. We were printing full page color photos of our booth visitors standing next to our mummy. In the 3 days I printed over 200 full page, edge-to-edge photos. The printer was so fast that I rarely had to use our backup printer which was a HP 960. I hated using the HP since it took three times as long to print the same quality photo.

Prints great, but print head is major design flaw!

Summary: This is my third Canon printer in about 10 years, my first two lasted roughly 4-5 years, and when I needed a new one, Consumer Reports gave this model its top marks. After six months I started having problems with clogged print heads on color. Several deep cleanings, which deplete ink quickly, seemed to resolve this. After a year, the print head is so bad that I can only print in high quality mode.
thought it was good first year but im changing my mind!

Summary: I had this printer a year ago and I was really happy with it. Really happy. and i think i even did a review on some websites giving it 5 stars and etc. But now after a year im sick of this printer. when it prints the black sometimes doesn't show up and if it does its really blurry (unreliable when typing papers!). I don't know what the heck went wrong with this printer but something did. I emailed canon but no luck...they have horrible tech support.
Summary: I received this printer in the correct delivery time. I was glad to see everything was there and I set it up easily. I use the MacOSX so the directions are not great for us. I called tech support directly with a question about having to download a driver which was not on the CD. They were super friendly and listened to my concerns. I called the following day about ink level viewing which again was unclear in their manual.
Summary: I was less than pleased with the quality of the prints from the printer I already had when I tried to print pictures taken with my digital camera. I wanted a new printer, but didn't want to spend too much money since I already had one that is a 4-in-one, so I knew I wouldn't be getting rid of it. A friend suggested this model and from the first test print, I was impressed. It even prints graphics just as beautifully.
