Great Printer - Super Photos and hardly ever jams!
5 March 2011
Summary: I've had this printer for several years and love it! It produces great pictures using Canon photo paper. If using cheap photo paper, you'll be wasting your money...you get what you pay for. You can set the printer to print in quiet mode, which is nice but goes a little slower. A gal at a school event saw a few photos printed from the printer and was impressed at the print quality.
Summary: I bought my first i850 when they were the latest and greatest and had many, many years of wonderful service. It finally gave up the ghost in 2009. I dragged my feet purchasing a new printer because I'd just bought a case of ink for this specific printer, but also because this was such a great printer. Finally found one, new, still in box, and snagged it in a heartbeat. Got it set up and running, and it's every bit as good as the first one was.
Summary: I had this product for many years until it froze up. Using newer Canon printers (those with the five ink containers) only added to the cost of replacing ink - expensive! Refilling cartridges became necessary. But Canon (and other makers) put a chip into the cartridges. Now cartridges really cost one to replace. Refilling chip cartridges worked, but necessitated a procedure of snapping them into the printing head before every print job. Bummer.
Summary: I just like it. I wish canon would dump half the things they now make and go back to this one. For those that just want to print, i850 can not be beat. Company executives misguidedly think public wants a printer that will do everything and only print photos. They subscribe to heard mentallity and thinking. If HP and Lexus is doing it them we got to do it!! Typical corporate no risk taking thinking. It is wrong thinking! As long as I can get a used i850.
Summary: I like Canon printers. My favorite Canon was an i550. It was a workhorse which "sipped" ink from its 4 cartridges. I print a great many color photos, and the quality of the color printing was very good. Eventually, it had a very common difficulty, a clogged printhead, and no solution I tried was able to fix the problem. So I bought another Canon, an MP240, which is a printer, copier and scanner, mainly because I couldn't find a simple, printer-only Canon.
Summary: I bought this Canon i850 inkjet printer to replace one that I have had for several years. The other printer quit working, so I took it to a repair place and after a month they said they couldn't get the parts to fix it. I decided to see if Ebay had any for sale and got a great deal on a replacement printer. The Canon i850 is my favorite because it uses four ink tanks and if you run out of one color you just replace that ink tank.
Summary: I love this printer! It has 4 ink tanks which are easily refillable. I ordered this printer because I wore out my old one! (2 years - constant printing from 2 computers!) I especially like it because it can be hooked up to 2 computers - one usb and the other parallel. It will listen to whichever one you tell to print! Great printing of pictures, even on plain paper. It's a keeper!
Summary: We had this printer for about 3 years. When it is working well, it works well. On the other hand, a small amount of dust in the printer caused horrible smudging and ruined photos. Impossible to clean. No instructions for cleaning the inside of the printer to stop smudging. I managed to wipe some out with my finger the first time, but that didn't last long as now it is doing it again and I can't see anything in there (yes we close the covers on a regular basis), so must...
