Summary: Purchased this printer for our office about 6 months ago. It started out as a great printer. The printer says the cartridge is empty about half way through but it has plenty of ink left in it, you have to figure to the secret code to resent the printer ink for the cartridge you have in the machine, with the door open press security and cancel and that will bring up the reset menu. Then it will start to dump gobs of toner into the machine turning your prints to crap.
Summary: I now have 2 of these printers. They are excellent, excellent value. I have been refilling the toner on the first one I purchased with perfect results so don't panic about having to buy Brother toner costs.
Summary: The printer works fine until you put in a new toner cartridge and it leaks (Clearly defective). I purchase the black toner cartridge a month after I got the printer because I knew that I would need it at some point. I just installed it 4 months later, and as I just learned Brother only stands by their consumables 90 days from the day of purchase, so if you buy this printer wait until your cartridges are gone to buy a new one.
Summary: I received the delivery one day early and the packaging was intact and handled well. The printer is a bit heavy; however, physical set to include the second base tray went very well. The CD that came with the printer and the drivers were outdated; so I would suggest just do the download from Brother.com to begin with and save some set up time. The printer is functioning well so far and it is very quiet.
Summary: Brother has come a long way in the dependability and User Interfaces for their products. I used to recommend other brands, but in our office environment at work we have noticed the Brother laser printers have lasted the longest with minimal service required. One key issue: The onboard "Out of Toner" messages are premature. I have experimented using the reported bypass techniques that you can find on the Web to extend the time between toner changes for weeks on end.
