It goes through cartridges like nothing, it really is nothing short of staggering

Summary: This printer is an absolute racket. It goes through cartridges like nothing, it really is nothing short of staggering. Once any of the colors run out, you can't print in black. I don't print photos or anything color rich, just basic document here and there and I've had inkjet printers where the ink lasted longer than cartridges in this printer. I use it in my home office, I simply can't imagine any business relying on this printer for every day use.
Excerpt: I truly dislike this printer-we really don't get along. Do not think this printer is designed for even a small business-which we are not! My Staples representative recommended this to me. Will not print more than 10 checks in the feeder-don't put 11 as it will pull 2 and the rest are out of number. Also constantly sprays/dots black ink on all documents-2 of 3 black toner cartridges seem to do this-no other color.
Summary: Print quality was piss poor, it went right back for a full refund. Brother in general isn't something to lean on for high quality print. We ended up purchasing a xerox machine (6280DN) instead which performed significantly better. If you are looking for sharper color images, this just ain't the machine for you. Look elsewhere and save yourself from product return hassles on something this bulky.
Summary: Good quality and speed when it comes to printing, but my main complaint about this printer is that it won't consume all the toner before signaling that the cartridge is empty. You then have to remove the toner, shake it, put it back in to get one more page at a time, for maybe another 5-6 pages. However, if you remove the plug and pour out the toner into a bag, you'll see that there's still a significant amount of toner left over.
Summary: I purchased this printer about six months ago to replace an HP color laser model I had. Immediately, I noticed that my color images had dot gain and color shift issues. I could live with that, but I wasn't thrilled at the quality loss in this new printer. This past week, almost every tenth print gets jammed around the drum inside the unit. I have to remove the ink cartridges, stick my hand in, get covered in ink, and literally pry the page off the components every time.
Excerpt: I really liked this printer and had no major issues with it until this week other than occasional having network connection issues from the wireless devices. A drum error message showed saying to clean the corona wires. but even after doing this I continued to get this message even though the drum life remaining said 73%.
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use, Lots of features, Reliable, Sharp tones & colors
Cons: Automatic toner use stop, Large Footprint, Too much toner used
Summary: This review is geared towards the customer service one buys when purchasing a new product. As for the purchased HL-4540 CDW printer we bought less than 7 days ago, simply stated, it never worked out of the box. It received the 'Print Unable 36' error and would never recover. What followed is what caused a rating of 2 stars. We contacted Brother Support and worked with their staff. The support person ultimately said the printer would need to be replaced.
Nothing more than a single sided plain paper printer

Summary: I've now owned this printer for two years and I must say I curse it nearly daily. Many of the features I bought it for do not work properly. The duplex printing feature never works -- paper jams nearly every time. Envelope printing is also hopeless. They also jam -- some have even burned. If all you want is straight forward, single-sided paper printing (don't attempt card), it works fine most of the time and it's relatively good value for the money.
