Summary: I bought this printer on January 30, 2013. It has worked flawlessly for 15 months on about 20,000 pages, all in duplex format (i.e., 10,000 sheets). Yesterday it started jamming. I gently removed the jammed sheets (that was very easy - no force necessary), I carefully examined for any paper stuck - front, rear, inside, bottom drawer -- but it's all clear, no torn paper fragments anywhere. I turned it on again. In duplex, henceforth it will jam.
Summary: Based on reviews and specs, I was excited to install this printer and use it for our hotel operation. It ran well for about 3 months, after which it would overheat and pause after every page of a multi-page print. After taking it to an authorized Brother vendor, the error code revealed a defective fuser and power source (after about 6000-7000 copies).
Summary: We bought this HL6180DW Brother printer in August of 2012. Initially, machine worked quite well. Around 14 months later (you know, right after warranty expired), the quality of the printing began to degrade. We tried new toner and drum, updated all applications, drivers and firmware. We also tried numerous setting combinations to see if could improve print quality. Unfortunately, print outs are getting worse and worse.
Excerpt: This printer replaced a HP duplexing printer and I liked the HP better. This one "poops" toner on paper continuously. I get creased paper randomly with prints. Brother printers count the pages printed per toner vs. using all the toner. I've replaced cartridges that were still printing fine. I've had other Brother printers and would not buy another, no matter what price!
Summary: This replaces a ten year HP4050, which was an iron workhorse. This printer is lighter and plasticier (new word), but prints fast and clearly, albeit a little noisy. After 13,000 pages, there has been only one jam. I like the double siding print feature, but wish I had a use for it. Orders and invoices should be printed on only one side. Six months later, June 2014. Printer spews out wrinkled paper. Paper gets wrinkled between the drum and the fuser.
Good printing and duplex printing. Wondering about sleep function issue still. And dims the lights.
8 November 2013
Summary: It DOES dim the lights, which is unnerving. it also goes to sleep and won't awake on a print command. Seems to be no way to turn off the Sleep function (I wouldn't mind if it didn't mean the machine goes off and has to be manually turned off and on to start up again). Also, it's difficult to switch among wireless, network, etc. DOn't understand how Brother can not get this stuff right.
Excerpt: Read all the great reviews so I thought I would give a Brother printer a try. Printer works fine, but it peaks at 10 amps on start up and printing. Everytime it prints or gets turned on, it causes my modem to reset which knocks out cable, internet, and phone until the modem finishes resetting.
Summary: Does not work out of the box. Connection issues with router will take about 8 hours to fix/figure out. Constantly going into deep sleep and never waking up when there is a print job sent to it. Airprint functionality with iPad and iPhone is dysfunctional. If you are looking for plug and play, then look elsewhere.
