  • Excerpt: Reliable, Fast for multiple prints, prints from iPhone well. Note that the "click to clunk" time to print the first copy over the network is unseemly long. (5 +seconds..) Seems like I'm always waiting for my print. Less than 1 sec is expectation!

Phil, Staples
10 April 2014
  • Excerpt: I bought 5 for the office. They work great and are very fast. The first one is only 2 months old and the drum has a band on it and had to purchase a new one.

Redder, Staples
3 April 2014
  • Excerpt: This is a ood solid printer. It lasted about 20 months in a hard working office environment. Plastic grear in the paper hadling and transit section failed. But it was a good sale and we simply bought 2 more at excellent Staples savings coupled with a rebate for recycling old printers.

Brother Laser Printer up and running

Bob, Staples
9 March 2014
  • Excerpt: I like the machine. It does exactly what I bought it for. I spent an hour or more following the instructions (which were challenging) to connect the printer to our three computers, but was not successful. Fortunately, a friend was willing to come and help to complete the job.
  • Pros: Compact Design, Fast Print Time, Sharp detail
  • Cons: Hard Setup

Good price and printing quality, bad setup (solution for "no Airprint printers found")

Fred, Amazon
11 January 2014
  • Summary: The printer prints well. If you can get through the terrible setup instructions, and figure out some tcp/ip magic. If you buy it and set it up to work wirelessly, here is what I learned. First, don't follow the instructions in the "Quick Start Guide". They're not quick and you won't get started.

  • Excerpt: Drum failed less than a week out of warranty. Had to go through 6 people before one person agreed to be flexible. Entire machine was replaced, but not the drum. Another failure. Drum was then replaced. Machine is fine now. Print is clear and quick. Toner cartridge life is as advertised.

Don't count on the wireless

rka, Staples

  • Excerpt: Can't really tell how fast or well this printer works, because I've been trying to get it to work wirelessly. I actually printed one page successfully, but then it went offline again. After carefully following the Quick Setup Guide instructions several times, I called Support.
  • Pros: Fast, Sharp Detail
  • Cons: Noisy

Henry, Staples
21 February 2013
  • Excerpt: Very slow printing from pdfs; very fast from Word. Not sure why the difference. Goes into deep deep sleep quickly, and I have to turn on and off to wake up.
  • Pros: Fast Sometimes
  • Cons: Frequent Printing Problem, VERY NOISY

MacBro, Adorama

  • Excerpt: Bought HL-5470DW for all Mac home office use. More pricey than personal models w/ seemingly no benefits other than more sturdy features. Good print quality, but duplex printing requires continuous re-setting. Automatic "deep sleep" setting is very annoying.
