Affordable and Solid Printer after Firmware Update
15 August 2014
Summary: After my nine and a half-year old cheap basic Brother printer started jamming a lot, I decided it was time to replace it with a model that had Airprint and duplex. Since my house was wired with gigabit Ethernet when constructed, I don't need wireless capabilities and this seemed like a solid choice at such a good price (which was even a little lower back when I bought mine). I was able to print from all our devices (three Mac computers, two iPads and two iPhones) easily.
Summary: I've been using this line of Brother printers for over 10 years. I started with the HL-1440. Yes, this is a black and white laser printer...thus no color, but for the job it does you do not need color. This is the most reliable printer I know of. When it says it's out of toner...count on getting many more pages out of it...it will not quit printing unless it has absolutely NO toner. The print gets lighter but it's hardly noticeable. That's how amazing this printer is.
Excerpt: Great little printer - just a quiet little workhorse. This user has had 4 Brother printers in a row, over about 15 years and wouldn't have any other. If you want color, or fancy, choose something else. If you want economical laser jet, dependable black and white everyday business printing, this is the one for you.
Summary: I'm a CPA and my multifunction printer, copier, fax broke down during tax season. I needed a high speed printer fast while my other one was being repaired. I ordered the Brother HL5450DN because the price was very reasonable and I needed it yesterday. I ordered it Sunday afternoon and it was delivered Tuesday morning.
Summary: The print quality and speed are very good for a small business or busy home office situation, though the foot-print was a little larger than we were hoping for. It has a decent size tray for paper, and allows for envelops and thicker pages to be fed in through different doors on the front and back. The cartridge it come with can print ~3000 pages.
Summary: very happy with this printer. It works quickly and generates high quality copy. If there is a downside it is with the capacity of the toner. But I expected that. With my iMAC it was plug and play, no real set up required.
Summary: It doesn't get much better than Brother laser printers. I have tried so many different brands and types of printers and have come to one conclusion, Brother LASER printers are the only printers to buy. I install these things in homes and offices alike, and have installed hundreds. When I used to install HP's flavor of the month, or Epsons, or even brother inkjets, I would always come to a point where something would go wrong with the printer that was just not going to be...
