Summary: If you're looking at purchasing this printer, think long and hard first. We have owned a Brother 5150 for five years and it's great. This machine was to be an addition to that one and an upgrade in many ways; it does not print; it is locked up and unrepairable. Ive had two IT guys and my own troubleshooting investigations avail me nothing but additional cost and lost time. Brother's customer service is simple and unhelpful.
Summary: Bought Brother HL5450DN printer. It arrive with a defective toner cartridge that left ink smudges on page. After a long discussion with customer service and sending them copies of the smudged prints, they admitted it was a defective cartridge and said they would send instructions for returning it for a replacement. The instructions never came.
Summary: I ordered this device as it is one of the few home printer options that supports Google Cloud Print - the convenient protocol that allows you to print from any device. I have devices at home running five different operating systems, and I really didn't want to deal with printer drivers for all five. Well, this printer does not work with Google Cloud Print.
Excerpt: Very poor quality machine. You get what you pay for. It's heavy, loud, large, labels get jammed. Starting falling apart after a short period of time, along with the toner is expensive. So you do not save any money after you buy the toner.
Cons: Flimsy, Labels Keep Getting Jamme, Noisy, Uses Too Much Ink
Summary: I bought this printer mostly for its small footprint and needed only a black and white printer. It was hardly used when it started printed all black pages, then ceased to work at all. Called the manufacturer and they said nothing could be done since it was out of warranty. Took it to their recommended repair shop and was told it needed a new power source and drum....over $200 in parts.
I bought two of these, one works, the other does not

Summary: I bought one in June. I really like it. Fast and does what it was supposed to do. Then I bought another in July. From day one, it started having problems but now it is unable. Prints everything in blurred ink, destroys the page and occasionally destroys the original. Has not worked correctly in four months. That brought me into the hell that is Brother's "customer service" department. All it is is a marketing operation with robo email.
Summary: The Printer worked well for about 10 months. Then all of the lights on the front started blinking. After following the troubleshooting steps, it was determined that it needed to be serviced. Even though the printer is in warranty, there is a $140 service charge. Yes, you read that right $140 to fix an in warranty issue for a $180 printer. I will never buy another brother printer again... ever.
Summary: I read some of the other reviews about this, but thought because we may be ok because we have an existing brother that works fine, and we have a brand new house and brand new electrical. I was wrong. The second I turned on the machine, all the lights in our room went out. AVOID THIS PRODUCT!
Excerpt: Bought this for a small office. Printing capabilities very limited. Auto Select paper feed option doesn't work. Several discussions with customer service at Brother finally revealed that this machine simply will not wait for odd paper sizes or envelopes to be loaded - it will print using whatever paper is actually in the machine at the time the print button is pressed. Not efficient at all for multiple users. Might work well if within reach of the person printing.
