Pros: I have two other Brother Laser printers and have had no trouble with them or this new HL-5140. It took about 2 hours to uninstall all of the HP processor laboring software and the PC went from an 8 minute boot to 4 minutes. This Brother product took less than 10 minutes to unbox, hook up, install...
Pros: Very fast on printing graphics such as Streets and Trips maps. I have a HP laser that cost 3 times the money and is much slower. I've printed at least 4 reams of paper on the factory installed toner cartridge.
Cons: I wish it didn't take 8 seconds or so for the first sheet of paper to come out but I think that is still faster than most lasers.
Pros: I have standardized on the the Brother 5140 for my departments and it has been a very reliable printer. Brother has been a great company and I have had a couple of printers that user's broke that Brother took back under their warranty. Big thumbs up on their service.
Cons: The only con is a wish it used the same toner and drum that the 5040 does. I have over 20 of them and it would have been nice to only carry one set of toners. This is not a very big con.
Summary: If you need a good reliabe laserjet printer this is it. Works great on my home network thru a linksys print server.
Pros: Lets see what more can you ask for in a sub two hundred dollar laserjet printer. I have had mine for a few months now and absolutely love it. I upgraded the memory to the full one hundred forty-four mb, and have had zero problems with it.
Cons: Its hard to find accessories for it unless you goto brother for them and then they aren't cheap, I had hoped to get the extra paper tray for mine.
Summary: Overall A great printer. Its cons are minor and the price is right for the level of quality printing.
Pros: Excellent print quality. Super easy setup. No problems with curling paper. I got this to print to toner transfer paper for making printed circuit boards. It prints great to the toner transfer paper (PnP Blue). Has a nice toner save mode which prints black as grey Its pretty fast from clicking pri...
Cons: Memory Expansion panel pops off really easy but its not realy a problem unless your moving it around all the time which I dont see why you would. The tray extension tab in the output tray is really flimsy but that seems to be common among all printers. Plus the output tray is big enough to hold 8...
Summary: I bought this printer last minute. The printer I had before went out on me and I needed something quick. I do a fair amount of printing and this thing is awesome! Not a single glitch, setup took less than 5 min and it was ready to rock and roll. It has fair price for what it is capable of.
Summary: This is a good, basic laser printer if you don't need color. Handles a variety of media sizes, envelopes, postcards, etc. Items fed through the top tray do tend to curl slightly, but it hasn't damaged anything thus far.
Summary: I operate in a Windows XP Home environment with the latest drivers. This printer prints well but absolutely refuses to print envelopes. It is very frustrating to finish a letter and then have to hand address it, not once but repeatedly. Tech support? What's that? This will be my last Brother.
Summary: This isn't the worst printer I've ever owned, but it definitely makes the short list. The problem of the paper curling that other people have alluded to is a significant one for me. I'm an author, and when I print out a manuscript, 350 curly pages are unwieldy and look amateurish.
