"Easy to set-up and access. No issues. No frills."

  • Pros: Quickly sets up. Drivers from Brother.com provide easy network access to Macs or PCs. I've had this for almost a year an have experienced no issues.
  • Cons: Typical for a laser printer ... it is heavy and draws enough current to dim the lights momentarily. Make sure the toner cartridges are well jostled before installing.

Brother HL4040CN Laser Printer

julien43, Ebay

  • Summary: This is a great color laser pinter for a home or small office. Print quality is excellent. High capacity, in box, cartridges make it a cost effective solution when compared to other printers in it's price range. I unpacked the unit loaded the toner cartridges and had it connected to my network within 30 minutes. USB 2.0 and Ethernet connect-ability allow users the best choice for their work environment. The unit weighs in at 53 lbs.

  • Summary: I like the first one so much that I got another one for our 2nd home. Plug it into the router and we all can use it. Great quality, both on printing and build.

  • Pros: Fast, compact, cheap to refill, toner lasts forever, networked, usb printing, user interface accessible via web browser, lots and lots of options, inexpensive if you get it on sale at either Staples of Office Max
  • Cons: small feeder tray, doesn't print graphics as well as the HP lines.

"It's been a good choice for us."

itgranny, CNET

  • Pros: We use the 4040cn extensively (probably close to 10,000 pages per month) and we're pretty happy with it.
  • Cons: Color is so so. it does go through consumables pretty quick. As well as toner, you've got the drum unit and the waste toner.

Best entry level color laser for the money.

limpits_reef, Ebay
10 October 2009
  • Summary: After doing quite a bit of research online I purchased a Brother HL4040CN color laser printer for my home office. I was looking for an entry level color laser that would do a good job and not cost over $300. While there were cheaper color laser printers out there they did not have very good reviews.

"Paid $199.00 for it at Staples last week. AWESOME!"

Schmoogsly, CNET
21 July 2009
  • Pros: 1. Print quality is very good (text & graphics = SUPERB & photos = good). 2. Setup was a breeze and the layout make it easy to use.
  • Cons: 1. WAF (wife approval factor) may be a problem for some. It's ugly and VERY heavy. 2. Rather basic design (not a lot of bells and whistles).

very impressed with the product

puppymummy, Ebay
13 July 2009
  • Summary: This is my first laser printer. The set-up was fairly easy although I did have to do a re-install because I had trouble with the networking in our home office computers. I was pleased with quality of the prints both for presentations and picture quality. Only con is when I do print pictures from my computer many don't line up correctly one side does have a border and the other end bleeds off the page.
