Summary: I've had it for over 4 years now and have used it a lot and used a lot of toner (it seems like I've printed out lots of materials so I think it is fairly efficient) and I'm only on my second set of cartridges. I used it for printing marketing materials for ad campaigns. Toner is costly but it is for all of them - HP etc. Only trouble I've had is it is very slow to warm up and wake up from low power sleep.
Cons: High price of replacement toners. Had a problem with the machine after 2000 copies. All images had a pink tinge to them. Emails between myself and Brother in Sydney resolved problem. They sent me a new Magenta toner and it fixed it. Then got black spots o
Summary: The HL-4040CN is a nice piece of hardware and after 6 months use, i am well pleased with it though i have found that if you are printing an A4 sized picture which has large amounts of black on it, then it can have trouble sticking to the paper, but after 2 or 3 attempts, ()perhaps when the machine it a bit warmer?)it does find it easier.
Summary: I purchased this unit to replace another same model printer that had just recently died. I have used Brother laser printers exclusively for the last 5 years and have been extremely pleased with the performance. This printer has a rugged heavy feel to it. Print speeds are very quick and noise factor is minimal. As with most printers though, the expense for consumables is expensive compared to the fairly purchase price point for the initial investment in a printer.
Summary: I received this printer a few months ago, and it's been a joy to have. It works perfectly for my home office. I originally had problems with the toner but once we switched over to high yield that problem went away. My only complaint about the printer is the long warm up time. If the plan is to print something and run out the door, it's not going to happen. Also, printing envelopes can at times be tricky but it's nothing that can't be overlooked.
Pros: #1 it is a great network printer. I put it on and even my wife can print to it even though she is in a differnt work group. #2 It does a great job on color, and black is a little slow but hey $350 I am happy.
Cons: A replacement set of toner is the same price of a new printer. So I will just buy a new printer since they dont let you refill the toner cartridge. I would rate this higher if each toner wasnt $100 and there are 4 in it.
Summary: The printer took longer to arrive than promised, and left me in the lurch for a job I had planned. I called your customer service and was virtually told off, what did I expect at that time of year. I really felt I should have purchased it locally in view of his attitude, but in the past I have been more than happy with my dealings with Amazon. The only other problem was, I installed the printer, the test page was fine, but the first color job came out black & white.
