"Not entirely happy - the jury is still out"

24 April 2011
  • Pros: Low cost, speed OK
  • Cons: High price of replacement toners. Had a problem with the machine after 2000 copies. All images had a pink tinge to them. Emails between myself and Brother in Sydney resolved problem. They sent me a new Magenta toner and it fixed it. Then got black spots o

Brother HL4040CN Workgroup Laser Printer

8052681619, Ebay
16 April 2010
  • Summary: I purchased this unit to replace another same model printer that had just recently died. I have used Brother laser printers exclusively for the last 5 years and have been extremely pleased with the performance. This printer has a rugged heavy feel to it. Print speeds are very quick and noise factor is minimal. As with most printers though, the expense for consumables is expensive compared to the fairly purchase price point for the initial investment in a printer.

"Prints great, But ink is high"

edterry0101, CNET
7 March 2009
  • Pros: #1 it is a great network printer. I put it on and even my wife can print to it even though she is in a differnt work group. #2 It does a great job on color, and black is a little slow but hey $350 I am happy.
  • Cons: A replacement set of toner is the same price of a new printer. So I will just buy a new printer since they dont let you refill the toner cartridge. I would rate this higher if each toner wasnt $100 and there are 4 in it.

Good overall printer-Read this review before you buy

zeneph, Ebay
10 January 2009
  • Summary: This printer is great-especially when it was on sale 50%. That was the reason I chose this one. It is also great because it comes with regular yield cartilidges instead of starter. What I did not like was the huge and heavy design without the bright colors. The colors seemed a bit dull compared to on screen. The print quality was just "reasonable" for this reason.

"Suits my purpose very well."

Bdublewe, CNET
30 December 2008
  • Pros: The price and connectivity features were deciding factors concerning this purchase.
  • Cons: The printer isn't crazy about envelopes, and I haven't found a glossy paper that will let my graphics look quite as well as the demo. The weight of the paper you can use is also limited.

Great Buy

IO331, J&R
17 October 2008
  • Summary: This is a super printer for this price. Great print quality for your text documents that you would expect from a laser printer and good color printing to boot. Borrowed from review when I was searching for information on the printer: For printing photos use a good quality heavy paper and the following settings 2400 dpi, +1 Red, +8 Blue, +15 Saturation Makes for some very nice photo prints.
  • Pros: Easy Setup, Easy To Use, Sharp tones & colors
  • Cons: Large Footprint, Little Memory
