Low initial cost but quirky network connectivity and short toner life ruin the value proposition

Summary: I have had Brother printers before and knew there would be trade offs like short toner life and horrible drivers. This one didnt disappoint in that regard. Although it was remarkably easy to install on my wired network, we were never able to get it to print wirelessly from anything. Im a fairly competent user and have been IT admin for quite a few small companies so I can usually get things to work. My criteria is one of time invested vs.
Decent replacement for the older 3040, takes same toner.

Summary: This replaces an earlier model that simply quit printing with any kind of accuracy, but I had plenty of toner left and it was compatible. So far it's been lovely as a replacement. I do lots of labels and special finish papers for cards and it's handled all of them besides the mundane printing of everyday stuff from both our Mac and Windows computers.
I have had this printer before and like it very much

Summary: I have had this printer before and like it very much. But some kind of part broke inside, and it cost more to replace than get a second hand replacement. Unfortunately, the item I received was described as being in very good condition, but it is clearly defective, as it will not print. It does not receive data from the computer, and I have tried all manner of fixes. Other printers work with no problem, so the issue is with this particular printer.
Summary: I've had the printer for a little over a little under a year now and I have to say this has been a real lemon. I've used brother printers for some time and always favored them when I've needed to buy a printer and so when I opened a small business in which 1 needed a color laser printer I opted for this one. Initially the printer worked as is should but after a very short period of time, I got a warning that I needed to replace the black in toner.
Summary: I have been using this printer as my backup color printer for over 16 months. The original color cartridges lasted the full 16 months because I only print about a dozen sheets a month in color. I just went to change my cartridges for the first time (cost me $200 for new Brother OEM cartridges) and the release button on the Yellow drum broke so I cannot replace the yellow cartridge.
Summary: For the price and size, this printer has excellent quality. Replacing cartridges is a little expensive, but that will be true of any printer. I have another Brother black-and-white printer that I use as my workhorse - most of what I print is just text. When I specifically need to print in color, I switch to this model.
Summary: I have had this printer for almost 2 years now and it has worked just fine. Still on original toner, but I print very seldom, which is why this is the perfect printer for me. Inkjets were a problem because I print so seldom the cartridges would always dry out. Today I did finally have to do the cartridge reset that everyone has talked about. Seems to still be printing fine. This printer is a very good value, lots of features and good quality printing for the money.
Great printer. Everything I hoped for when I bought it.

Summary: I got this about 1.5 years ago, and we've pumped through almost 5000 pages, mostly B&W. I'm very happy with it. Black & White text looks very professional and crisp. Color is great for graphics. It's not a photo printer, though. But it's not intended to be. But I'm still very happy with the quality of the color images. It works great on my wi-fi network, but my GF was having a few problems, so I plugged it directly into her computer with USB.
