Summary: The printer works great with Ubuntu 11.10 Linux and Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit). The only trick is that you have to install the .deb package from the Brother website and then force Ubuntu's printer manager to use the PPD file in /usr/share/cups/model/Brother. The network connectivity of this printer is questionable.
Summary: This is a good printer however, it should be used for basic printer. It jams quickly with envelopes and thick paper. Otherwise it is fine. I would not recommend for someone one needs it for true business purposes but home/casual use is great.
Summary: Good value if it is under $100. The running cost should be lower than other color laser printer. A few key strokes will reset the toner counter. Hope I can really get 3000+ pages from the starter toner.
Brother HL-3040CN: Budget price, average picture quality
13 May 2013
Excerpt: "The great thing about this printer is the low initial purchase price (less than £130 in November 2011), and the fact that for under £50, you can get a full set of non-OEM toner refills (although you must first buy a Gear Reset kit for around £11 - this is a one-time purchase, however). I would also recommend spending an extra £15 on an after-market 512MB memory module to virtually eliminate any "Out of memory" error messages you might get when printing ...
Pros: Low purchase price, cheap cost of refill consumables, good overall speed/performance
Cons: Photo print quality only average (fiddly fine tuning), 1 - sheet manual feed, slow start - up
Summary: Just could not load the printer drvers and Brother and Microsoft help lines were an absolute waste of time. In the end an IT friend was able to delve into the software and after a few hours of sweat managed to get the drivers loaded. Now the printer is up and running it seems to be very good - however only time will tell as too how long the toners last.
Summary: I had mine for less than 2 years when it suddenly decided that the toner had run out, no matter how many times I changed the cartridges for new ones. And since it won't print if it thinks toner is low, that's it, dead. However, that said I have bought a second because its a pretty good printer fits on the desk, does the envelopes, labels etc, and I had more value of toner left over than the cost of a new printer so I got another.
Summary: I bought this printer thinking that I was picking up a bargain and on the whole, I really like it - it's fast, the print quality is good and for a shade under £ you can't complain. My experience has been marred, however, by a couple of issues, which is why I give it 3 stars, not 5. Firstly, I was led to believe that the printer shipped with toner cartridges that were 50% capacity, yet the Black one ran out after about 700 pages.
Summary: Lieferung und Verpackung waren ohne Beanstandungen.
