jammed and wouldn't clear

Marcellus I., Newegg
27 June 2012
  • Summary: I use a decent multipurpose paper, 20#, 92 brightness that I have used for years in my office.
  • Pros: decent color quality, reasonable footprint for what it is, price was good, drivers loaded fine
  • Cons: the unit had a several paper jams within the first few days of ownership, and then one that once the paper was removed would not clear the error code. This was to replace a printer (another make) that I had a similar problem with that had gotten past warranty. Decided if it jammed in the first we...

Half way there...

Mike S., Newegg
6 June 2012
  • Pros: Prints fast once it is on. Decent looking color. Price isn't terrible considering reliability of Brother and speed to first page out.
  • Cons: LCD didn't work when it arrived, still prints fine. Whenever it's on my APC battery backup switches on (transformer buzzes intermittantly). I have seen the B&W models come with rf chokes on their power cords, and it makes me wonder why this didn't. If it weren't for these two issues it would be f...

2/3 DOA, lots of errors

Anonymous, Newegg
26 August 2011
  • Summary: I've got 3 of these. Two burnt out immediately after first plugging them in. The first one was hit by lightning. Two repaired under warranty. These are good little printers but be prepared for headaches. This would be a good daily user with a more reliable printer for urgent and critical jobs.
  • Pros: Good print quality easy network setup Linux drivers available for those who refuse to bow to Microsoft (works with Ubuntu). I do hope they keep making it and work out the bugs.
  • Cons: NOT user friendly... any error keeps it from working. "Ghost" paper jams somewhat common. Ink needs changed way before toner used. many toner cartridges ARE DEFECTIVE FROM FACTORY and after putting a new one in it will still demand you change it

Brother Printer

squareape, Amazon
21 February 2011
  • Summary: This is a good printer however, it should be used for basic printer. It jams quickly with envelopes and thick paper. Otherwise it is fine. I would not recommend for someone one needs it for true business purposes but home/casual use is great.

Nice Printer - Poor Networking

developer spot, Amazon
20 February 2011
  • Summary: The printer works great with Ubuntu 11.10 Linux and Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit). The only trick is that you have to install the .deb package from the Brother website and then force Ubuntu's printer manager to use the PPD file in /usr/share/cups/model/Brother.

Decent printer

Sean A., Newegg
11 February 2011
  • Summary: Overall it's been a quiet, reliable, and high quality printer. The biggest gripes are the sensors for toner level. Something is seriously wrong with them. I'm still looking for a way to override the sensors and find out just how much toner is left. (Maybe I can weigh the cart with a gram scale..)
  • Pros: It has been reliable for us. Works well over our local network from all computers. The print quality is on-par with expectations. Works great for anything except high-quality art and photos. Setting to high quality mode does help, but still, very minor streaks appear and the color is a bit dull. ...
  • Cons: Color toner detection is extremely fishy. We bought this printer at Staples (some discount), but I buy from here all the time, so a review was appropriate. Just today I noticed the color toner is all about to run out. About 4 months ago, the first set of color toner also ran out at EXACTLY the sa...

GREAT! / LOUSY! Poor QA

Anonymous, Newegg
26 August 2010
  • Summary: If you get a DOA, it's sixty eight dollars to RMA through USPS and forty seven if you UPS and it takes 5 days min. That's a third to half of the price I paid for this boat anchor.
  • Pros: Low cost toner Good print quality for color and b&w small size LAN
  • Cons: Second one DOA! Waiting 3 days (only 3 days thanks to awesome NEWEGG) to get this to print an important job and now DOA! I'm guessing poor quality is why these are selling out and stocks not getting replenished. My first one, owned for 6 months, was taken out by lightning which came in the cable ...

Solid, fast printing, very expensive consumables

Chris Keegan, Amazon
21 February 2011
  • Summary: I bought this printer thinking that I was picking up a bargain and on the whole, I really like it - it's fast, the print quality is good and for a shade under £[] you can't complain. My experience has been marred, however, by a couple of issues, which is why I give it 3 stars, not 5.

good printer, shame it died!

F. Temple, Amazon
21 February 2011
  • Summary: I had mine for less than 2 years when it suddenly decided that the toner had run out, no matter how many times I changed the cartridges for new ones. And since it won't print if it thinks toner is low, that's it, dead.
