A great printer -- if you hate money

Monica "MPatitucci", Amazon
27 January 2014
  • Summary: I like this printer's performance, but the toner issue is ridiculous. It's out of toner constantly, and we don't print very much. Toner isn't cheap. Most recently, it wouldn't let us print anything in black and white because the yellow toner was low. Spend your money elsewhere.

WARNING: Don't ever buy from Brother!

Jay Klotz, Amazon
22 January 2014
  • Summary: I have 2 Brother printers, neither of which works right. One came slightly damaged (the front panel is bent and does not close properly), and could not get it fixed or replaced. And forget about customer "service". You can try - but there is no way you'll actually succeed in speaking to someone at this thieving company. Stay away!!

2 years and still haven't had to buy toner

Timothy Ueckerseifer, Amazon
18 November 2013
  • Summary: Had it for a couple years, still on the starter toner pack. I think maybe a few packs are getting low on ink, but I'm not sure, since I used the method to reset the counter on it that I've read on google. So it's worked out great, the pages look great and it prints pretty quickly. It's tough too since my cat likes to jump on it a lot (he thinks it's a step stool to get up to another part of the desk), and it still works fine.

DON'T BUY THIS PRINTER!

Emily Maher "squark", Amazon
19 August 2012
  • Summary: I bought this printer 1 year and 3 months ago. It has been a pretty good printer. However, the printer stopped working and displayed the error "Print Unable 73". I googled this and tried a few things to no avail. I contacted the company, and they said since it was over a year old, it was no longer under warranty. Then they gave me a list of authorized services providers. I would have to contact one and pay then to come fix my printer.

Nice Printer - Poor Networking

developer spot, Amazon
18 August 2012
  • Summary: The printer works great with Ubuntu 11.10 Linux and Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit). The only trick is that you have to install the .deb package from the Brother website and then force Ubuntu's printer manager to use the PPD file in /usr/share/cups/model/Brother. The network connectivity of this printer is questionable.

Says it's low on ink when it still has at least 1/3 left.

Renita Anderson "Rande", Amazon
12 July 2012
  • Summary: I bought three of these for my office and have regretted it. I've had them for about a year now and seems like I'm always hearing that they are low on toner. It doesn't even tell you which toner is low. If I perform a reset on the toner, I get about half back so I can use it longer. This printer is inexpensive but the toner is way too expensive. I don't reccomend it.

Workhorse of a printer

TheBobBlog, Amazon
21 June 2012
  • Summary: We have three of these Brothers in our offices and they last longer and are easier to setup then inkjets. Great for networking as well. Toner is a little expensive, and I've found it easier to just buy another Brother when the drums go bad since the new ones come with a whole new toner supply.
