Excerpt: I am not impressed with this printer so far. The wireless took forever to setup, and after two days was again invisible to the computer requiring a new setup. I finally attached it to the wireless router by USB because I don't trust it. The printer takes some effort to print on non conventional paper -- envelopes, card stock. My attempts to print cheap business cards failed as well. The card stock printed crooked. The printer prints. Period.
Excerpt: This is a terrific little printer. I bought it for use while my other printer was in the shop. It duplexes, takes single sheets, has decent speed, performed like a champ. THEN after about four months the "toner" light suddenly came on and the printer just stopped. Put in a new toner, wiped it down, cleaned the wire... everything that the troubleshooter said to do and nothing worked.
Excerpt: Your average everyday low cost printer, great deal for the price but don't expect any bells or whistles. Replacement cartridges' are cheap and can be knocked off by various venders. Last brother I had lasted for 4 years of everyday use. Isn't that the norm for these cartridge delivery devices? I would buy again, especially at the sale price.
Excerpt: Was told this was a very good printer. It has a bypass feed which allows a person to print thank you cards and envelopes at the same time with cards in main tray and envelopes in the bypass. The quality is wonderful. The problem is that we are not getting it to mesh well with our computer. Keep getting error codes. Needed to shut it off once and then it printed fine. The light that says it is out of paper seems to be on most of the time.
Excerpt: First the cons: Installing the printer on wireless network via router was the most difficult I have encountered. This boiled down to complicated instructions; requires installer to jump to different pages, PC and Mac instructions combined side by side in one booklet. Also, every computer on the network requires the Brother software to be installed. For my computer (less than 1 yr.
Pros: Fast, Quiet, Sharp Detail
Cons: Confusing Instructions, Envelope Feed Manual, Hard Wirelss Install
Excerpt: Due to being snowbird in AZ, associate recommended laser printer vs ink jet, but we didn't look closely to realize this was a black only printer, plus no 'copy', fax functions. Print quality was o.k. Motor ran rather long & loud, after printing a document. Returned to store for exchange.
Summary: I purchased this printer to use in our business for printing point-of-sale documents/receipts. This is the 3rd Brother laser printer I have purchased in the past year (3 separate models), and I purchased this one after being extremely pleased with the other two (the HL-5470DW and MFC-8710DW). Both of the previously purchased printers were based on the newer, larger platform, and this printer (HL2280DW) is based on the smaller platform.
Excerpt: Be nice if we could do both wired and wireless but you have to choose one or the other. Drawback since we have 3 computers in the office so only one can be hooked up. Don't want to put it on the "office" network because we dont want other people to be use it.
Excerpt: Manufacturers toner is very expensive due to their profit model of make it up on the toner purchases. The printer does not use all the toner up before it tells you it is low. Third party toners and recycles do not work right out of the box. You need the magic recipe to make them work.
