Excerpt: Ordered this printer in October of 2012. Only replaced toner 4 times over the 1 year and 10 months it worked. Now it wants a new drum. I can buy a new printer for less than the drum. Staples sells the DR420 Drum replacement for $109.99. The printer is advertised today for $99.99. I didn't realize that the drum was a consumable on this machine. Don't buy unless you want a throw away printer that has to have the drum replaced every couple of years.
Wireless is difficult, software is less user friendly than the past, and scanner is awful

Summary: I am editing this review because I really tried to like it. First off, let me just say I am a huge fan of Brother printers. I currently have a monochrome all in one laser printer that I cannot speak highly enough (DCP7040). It took me through grad school with the endless piles of paper I had to print. The scanner was excellent.
Excerpt: This printer would be appropriate for light, basic print jobs. It is temperamental and tries the patience. When switching from plain paper to checks or letterhead, it is highly unpredictable as to which direction it wants the paper to go in this time. (it varies) It will sometimes accept paper from the single-feed tray, and other times it will not.
Excerpt: I have tried following the printed directions, but cannot connect the printer wirelessly. Can't even connect using the USB cable. I'm sure that this is a wonderful product, if I can just get it to operate. Tried calling the support, but we went around and around for and hour and a half and he came to the conclusion that our router was defective. This couldn't be true because other computers and printers are operating wirelessly w/o a problem.
Excerpt: Bought this printer to do large black/white print jobs and ended up with destroyed documents. The printer curled the paper badly. Multiple contacts with Brother and using their FAQ suggestions did nothing to stop the curling.
Excerpt: I cannot install this printer on my MAC. There are no drivers for my version.I had a technician try to install this printer but he couldn't find the driver anywhere in the internet either.Wasted my time. Going to return it tomorrow.
Summary: I tried every method outlined in the manual to connect the printer to my wireless network and it failed to connect. I see everyone else loves the printer, me too - particularly the price. I have a wireless HP inkjet that I'm getting rid of and I connected it to my network in less than 3 minutes. This Brother was just too much frustration.
Summary: This is our third Brother printer; we've liked them since they've been good network/WiFi printers that produce quality copies/prints with relatively low toner costs. Efficiency is important since my wife teaches and unfortunately has to do lots of printing on our dime. Our last Brother printer worked really well but was damaged during the move to our new house. Buying a new one seemed like a no brainier.
