Summary: I bought this printer primarily due to its wired networking capability. However, after connecting, it subsequently drops the connection and then won't reconnect until I reboot my computer. Power-cycling the printer or the router doesn't correct the problem, only rebooting does; consequently I conclude the problem is most likely with the Brother printer driver software. Yesterday I spent over an hour with Brother "Customer Support".
Automatic Wireless (one-push button) Method Did Not Work

Summary: The Brother HL-2170W was returned for several reasons. 1. Brother advertises that this model supports the Secure Easy Setup for configuring the machine easily without a computer. That is why I purchased the printer. My access point for the machine is a Linksys WRT54GL router which also supports SES. I followed the Brother Quick Setup Guide for configuring the printer using the automatic wireless (one-push button) method. It is a 19 step procedure.
Summary: Bought the Brother HL-2170w printer to help me with my consulting business, to print b/w documents inexpensively for things like short letters, etc. The Brother MFC-685CW ink jet printer I already had hooked to my wireless network with no effort at all, and I expected the same with the 2170. Well, spent half a Saturday trying to get this to work on my network, and finally got it to work, kind of.
