    I primarily use this printer for my real estate business, printing many letters, envelopes, and postcards each week. I've had almost no problems with the printer. I use this printer without any trouble on both an iMac running OS X Snow Leopard as well as my PCs running Vista and Windows 7. My only real complaint is the fact that the printer's toner sensor shuts the printer down when it still has plenty of toner left. Read more

    I'm a student with varying printing demands that include moochers. I used it right out of the box to print a 90 page document for a college course. Flawless operation. I purchased my second one from J&R NEW IN BOX at a cheaper price than toner-less refurbs are on other sites. (The first is still going as a home-unit.) It does curl the pages, but that is a minor con. Read more

    I was sick and tired of paying $60+ for a replacement cartridge for my old laser printer. This Brother printer is inexpensive to buy and to replace cartridges. So long term is a great buy. Read more

    • Good quality B&W printer. Very cheap. Got it on sale. The replacement cartridges are quite reasonable too. Let me put a plug in for newegg's generic brand of cartridge...
    • None really. Only thing is about the low yield from the trial cartridge. But you can modify the sensors it as others have written about it here.

    You pay a little at the front end for the printer. Then you PAY FOREVER, over and over and over again for choosing the brother. I suspect they profit very little on the machine, but profit big time on all the stuff you buy later; again, and again, and again, ad infinitum.............. Read more

The HL-2140 is capable to print up to 23 pages per minute and high-quality output. Besides that, it is built with an enclosed 250-sheet capacity tray for convenient paper handling allowing user to stack a bundle of paper in it. Moreover, it provides a manual by-pass slot allowing user to load envelopes and letterhead. It is compact and space-saving enabling user to place it even on the work desk. It delivers up to HQ1200 (up to 2400 x 600 dpi) of resolution to provide quality letters, reports and documents. Plus, it is also easy to be use and adding to that, it also comes with a user-friendly animated tutorials answer common maintenance and support questions. In term of speed, it delivers 23ppm black.   • Good Printer for Checks?

    Is the Brother HL-2140 good for printing 20-25 checks at a time? I use Quickbooks Pro software. I have heard that Brother has had problems with printing more than one check at a time. Thanks for your help!

    If your toner light stays on you have two choices. On the left side of the toner cartriage is a little switch, turn it all the way counterclockwise and this tells the toner sensor that there is plenty of toner. The light will go out and you can start printing again. Also, on each end of the toner cartriage there is a little hole, about the size of a pencil point. Cover these with black electrical tape, and this will also fool the sensor and let you get your monies worth and use all the
