This is a good printer for use when you don’t need color and don’t want to spend a fortune on ink. The cost per page for laser printers is inherently less than the cost for ink jets. So you can keep costs down by having a printer like this along side of your color ink jet. The compact design, low profile, and small footprint allow this printer to fit most anywhere. Read more
The focus of the Brother HL-2140 is clear, and as a good little text churner this laser packs the goods. Use it extensively and, in the long-term, you'll end up paying considerable amounts. But for the typical family, this is an excellent complement to a quality inkjet and thus an ideal way to arm your home with strong text to go along with great colour graphics. Read more
In the rush for full technicolour, mono printers have fallen rather far from grace. However, if you're on a budget, there are plenty of excellent reasons for resisting the high-cost allure of a full colour laser. Windows users are directed to install the driver before removing the protective sticker from the printer's USB port and connecting it. Selecting the Linux driver option links to Brother's download site. Read more

An economic and viable alternative, especially when colour is not called for, is a desktop mono laser printer. Compact in size, a fast print speed and quality output plus high capacity toner cartridges all add to the appeal of such a device. Read more
I primarily use this printer for my real estate business, printing many letters, envelopes, and postcards each week. I've had almost no problems with the printer. I use this printer without any trouble on both an iMac running OS X Snow Leopard as well as my PCs running Vista and Windows 7. My only real complaint is the fact that the printer's toner sensor shuts the printer down when it still has plenty of toner left. Read more
I'm a student with varying printing demands that include moochers. I used it right out of the box to print a 90 page document for a college course. Flawless operation. I purchased my second one from J&R NEW IN BOX at a cheaper price than toner-less refurbs are on other sites. (The first is still going as a home-unit.) It does curl the pages, but that is a minor con. Read more

If your toner light stays on you have two choices. On the left side of the toner cartriage is a little switch, turn it all the way counterclockwise and this tells the toner sensor that there is plenty of toner.
