This Printer Won't Die

CHERISH L'Dawn, Amazon
6 February 2014
  • Summary: I've had this for over six years. We've replaced the cartridge a couple times. Printed thousands of simple hand flyers on colored paper for local venues. It's taken a ton of use and being moved, packed, shoved about, accidentally tossed in the garden shed but it still works.

A true workhorse

Matthew C., Newegg
23 October 2012
  • Pros: This printer is now over 6 years old and still performing daily. In 6 years I've only bought 2 toners for it so far. Network printing is wonderful! Perfect for anyone who needs black and white printing, without tryign to find a black and white inkjet (what's what??)
  • Cons: I noticed if there is a power outage or blink/flicker, the printer, has to be cycled to get it to be seen again on the network. Otherwise it is fine. Nowadays, I wish there was a wireless option :)

A little late with my review :-)

Zilla, Amazon
22 August 2011
  • Summary: I bought this printer in mid 2008. I don't do tons of printing, but enough that I know I wasted a lot of money printing documents with an inkjet printer for years before I bought this Brother Laser printer. The toner cartridges last and last.

3 years later, this thing is still working great!

Robbie, Amazon
28 October 2010
  • Summary: We have a bunch of computers in the house, so having a printer connected directly to a computer, then sharing that printer off of that computer, then making sure that computer was on using 150W of electricity and logged in...eh...that's a headache.

Network Printer + Wireless Router = Perfect

myoho guy, Amazon
12 August 2008
  • Summary: There have been tons of glowing reviews for this printer, and I have to report that after a year of owning it, I completely agree with them. I was a little slow in getting it configured so we could print from PC and a Mac laptops because it took a little time (it took longer to configure the PC; not...

This is really a great printer for the BUX

OldAnalogGuy "OldAnalogGuy", Amazon
3 April 2008
  • Summary: I was looking for a replacement for a 5 year old HP laserjet 2100 that required a parallel printer port (LPT1) and the new motherboard on the new box that I assembled didn't offer one(serial and parallel ports are generally gone, USB is the new wave). Anyway....

User Review

JOHNNY C., Newegg
28 March 2008
  • Summary: we were able to set this printer's IP to match our old network laser printer ... everyone was printing within minutes, no need to change the old HP LJ4/LJ5 or Brother HL-1260 printer driver on the workstations, everything printed just fine; it even printed as a line printer from our Unix servers...
  • Pros: excellent little workgroup printer, ultra fast printing easy to setup the IP address and begin printing works also when using XP's HP LaserJet 4 or 5 driver works also with older Brother HL-1260 printer driver supports LPR/LPD printing from Unix (BSD and Linux) systems (even over the Internet, no...
  • Cons: the output tray for workgroup purposes might be considered a little shallow ... maybe hold 20 pages before it seems too full kind of noisy paper path ... compared to other laser printers
