Summary: I had leftover toner and drum for this machine from a similar printer that died so I decided to buy this used unit. This machine works better than my defunct one so I'm glad I took the chance. I've been using it for over a month with no hiccups.
Summary: I bought this unit as most users rated it well on various Net sites, and I really liked the design--it looks like a miniaturized laser printer, and not a hybrid laser/inkjet with the feed paper jetting out (and getting exposed to dirt and dust). The integrated paper drawer was a big plus for me! Besides looking great, this printer is sooo SMALL... I've found the text output fabulous--as good as any laser I've seen.
Summary: For my home business needs, this printer is absolutely perfect! For the price, I get good quality black and white printing, faster and more cost efficient than an inkjet printer. Definitely worth the investment.
Summary: The product serves our purposes well. I already have one, but the paper light kept coming on and printer wouldn't work. I just opened a brand new ink cartridge when that happened; so I decided to buy the exact same printer so I could use my ink!
The printer is difficult, but the price was awesome.

Summary: The printer often (always) thinks it has no paper. If I insert a single page and turn it on the side, it often works. Despite that, the price was so great. A printer that prints at all for $40.00 is a bargain. The printed pages look great. I had a similar problem with that exact model. The one I bought was replacing it so I could use the three inks cartridges I have ($120.00 of ink).
Summary: This is a great little printer. This is the fourth brother HL-2040 we are using at our company. We purchased the first printer because it was small and would fit on our receptionist's station. The printer worked so well we bought three more, it is fast dependable and with separate drum and toner units inexpensive to operate, particularly when purchasing expendables on eBay.
Pros: Inexpensive to purchase, prints relatively quickly. Clear image.
Cons: Does curl the pages a bit, This doesn't really bother me, but some people have more problems with that than I do. I have ran into another user that had a problem with feeding paper, but it turned out to be a piece of paper stuck on the toner roller.
Excerpt: If you want to print on A5 or an envelope, there’s a setting for that too: just feed the surface into the manual bypass slot on the front of the printer . The controls on the printer are simple: there’s just one button. Press it once to get it going and three times to print a test page. It’s sufficient… but if you want scanning functionality you might as well get an all-in-one as it isn’t worth the trouble hooking them all up.
