Bought 2, had to return 2

Benjamin F Chen, Amazon
26 July 2013
  • Summary: Even after the latest firmware and customer service, these servers were still causing random strings to be printed on our invoices. We had to eventually return back to amazon and replace with TrendNet print servers (which are awesome). I originally bought this product because it was the cheapest of the parallel print servers. Unfortunately, it did not pay of this time. I suggest the TrendNet te-100 p1p. It cost a little more but once it's installed, it's invisible.

Works

Glynne, Amazon
15 July 2013
  • Summary: A print server for those old printers you may have. Needed it for a client and setup went smoothly. Though you will find it helpful to just use the software for initial setup. Manual IP configuration can be tricky. Nice that the unit is compact and no additional parallel cables are needed.

setup is a little tricky

WOJO, Amazon
16 June 2013
  • Summary: setup utility does a good job of building the pieces to access the printer. the install on an LJ5si required that you have a good working knowledge of MS printer setup to tie the pieces together.

Rock Solid Print Server

Piixel Pusher "Just another pixel pusher!", Amazon
22 May 2013
  • Summary: I have a small mixed home network: 2 Win Servers, 1 PC (W7), 3 PC laptops (XP, W7, W8), 1 Linux laptop (Ubuntu Godknowswhat), and 2 Macs (OS 10.6.3, OS 10.3). I installed the server on the network via a browser by accessing the control panel built into the server. Assigned it a IP address and that was it. Every computer is connected to the print server and it works flawlessly. Note: Windows users, there are a couple of subtleties when installing the "printer" on your OS.

nice and small, LEDs are helpful, connectors stay out of the way

Dave Ramsey, Amazon
6 May 2013
  • Summary: The network is nice and easy to setup with included Software. It would be even better without needing a wall adapter. The LEDs might be facing the wrong way if you have a port thats 90 degrees from it's base.

Worked for a week.

Bob, Amazon
21 April 2013
  • Summary: Took quite some time to setup because the IP address was hard coded to a subnet that my router couldn't reach (192.168.2.2). So, I went and got a crossover cable and set the IP address to something in my subnet and it started working. However, it also turned on DHCP, so it was handing out duplicate IP addresses as my router. After troubleshooting that and disabling DHCP, it worked fine for a week.

Works great!!!!

rotties rule, Amazon
17 April 2013
  • Summary: I have an older HP printer and was able to install it quickly with the assistance of the StarTech help line. I'm not familiar with all the technical terms so I called the help line. They were very helpful. Knew exactly how to install it and it works perfectly. As recommended in an earlier review, call to help get it installed. It will save a lot of time and frustration.

Handy For Older Equipment - Works Perfectly

M. Maney "Marty913", Amazon
13 April 2013
  • Summary: I have a customer with a very old copier/printer/scanner with a Parallel-only interface. The StarTech has been a real money saver and avoided replacing / upgrading the unit. A local copier company offered a $900+ upgrade to USB which was a less-than-optimal s9olution given the shared environment. A few bucks for a plugin Ethernet solution like the StarTech was a no-brainer.
