Summary: I bought this based on positive comments on review boards like this one. However, the installation from CD was awkward -- I missed one detail and had to uninstall the driver, reboot, and try again from the beginning. Its ports work fine -- it gave me the extra ports I needed off my Netgear "wall-plugged" adaptor. But I cannot get anything to print.
Pros: Added 3 ports to my home network via a house-wiring adaptor (1st port is connected to the adaptor -- duh!)
Cons: Installation "wizard" is awkward. Does not seem to work with all printers.
Summary: This is without question the lamest computer product I have ever had the misfortune to try. Absolutely nothing on the box or the enclosed materials tells you that this thing WILL NOT WORK with Macintosh computers. Linksys' technical support is atrocious. I was on hold for more than an hour, then got some chippie who couldn't speak intelligible English.
Pros: Nice little box with pretty picture of product on it.
Cons: Will not work with Macs unless you are a hacker/techie/mystic.
Summary: Used this thing with a hp laserjet 3500 as the original HP JetDirect stopped functioning. 5 minutes later it was working again. Fixed IP address. Works also from switch to switch so you do not have to find an uplink port. This saved some $ (euros) opposed to original HP stuff. Writing this review cost me more time than setting up the printserver.
Summary: I was tired of turning on my main computer everytime I wanted to print from downstairs in my house. It took away one advantage of networking my downstairs pc to. I'd have to make sure the main computer upstairs was on before I could print downstairs. This print server solved my need and is great. No problems with the install, if you just follow the instructions. I now have 3 pc's networked to the printer and it's great.
Summary: I bought this server for a Canon multifunction. Unfortunately, the Linksys website and the server's manual do not indicate which printers work with the server. I ended up buying another printer to share on the network and the server does a great job with just a regular Lexmark printer. In addition, the server is a lot smaller than it looks in the pictures and takes up very little space.
