Summary: Upgraded from Rigid to Makita last year. I love the tools the are strong and precise. The batteries are another story. After 1.5 years of use 3 of the 4 batteries we have are dead. No support from makita. The told us that the angle grinder probably kills the batteries prematurely. I would not buy makita again and when this set of tools dies I will go with Bosch.
Summary: These batteries have a design defect that will kill them prematurely and a 'feature' that will force you to buy another. There is internal circuit to control charge and count how many times it has charged or failed charging. This circuit is powered off a couple cells only, so if you leave without use too long those cells will zero out while the remaining are fully charged.
Summary: This Makita Li-ion BL1815 has a definite design flaw. At some point you will plug it into the charger and it will not charge. The charger refuses to charge it. This battery has an extremely premature death! Printed circuit board in the battery pack seems to be the culprit. Come on Makita, step up to the integrity table and stand behind a your products!
Summary: I have a few Makita LTX tools and needed another battery. Just as expected this batter preforms well. I have not tried to use an after market battery but to me it is not even worth the time to look for one.
Summary: This is my first Amazon review. I feel compelled to express my frustration and disappointment. I have owned two of these batteries for over a year. One battery ceased to function not long after first use. I didn't bother replacing it (a mistake, in hindsight) because I didn't think I needed two batteries. For my light and infrequent use, I thought one would be sufficient. I was right - for a short while.
Summary: I've owned this drill Makita BL 1815 for about two years and I have gone through 6 batteries. The original ones were under warranty but the others not. You can not leave the batteries on the charger after a full charge per authorized service center of Makita or they will be damaged but, the corporate customer service said that that is not true.I have used this drill almost daily and it is a great drill but, the batteries keep dying.
