Heavy and noisy but do the job

Jocelyn S., Newegg
15 October 2010
  • Summary: I put the unit in a closet to power a render farm in a rack. My 1U barebone dual xeon 1366 with 12 gb of ram uses only around 250 VA when rendering at full power. This unit is 5000VA, that means I could plug around 17 computer nodes on it. I now have to find a way to soundproof my closet.
  • Pros: This unit can be plug at home using a clothes dryer cables (and changing the wall outlet for a twist locking one). Clothes dryer are normally NEMA 14-30 but this unit use NEMA L14-30 (the L is for Locking so the only difference is the locking feature).
  • Cons: This is heavy. You need to be two strong guys to move this. The fans also always run at full speed and are really noisy.
