Solid and Reliable Old School

Richard B., Newegg
15 July 2013
  • Summary: Bought this at a local big box store because I needed it immediately. Doesn't sport the LCD screen that the newer cheaper plastic UPS units have but I never really look at the UPS anyway even if it has a pretty LCD screen.
  • Pros: Rugged, solid UPS. Case made of steel, not plastic like the newer ones from other manufacturers. Definitely old school with serial interface but it says right on the box that it's a serial interface. All outlets are battery and surge protected. The battery in this APC UPS actually has a higher am...

Inexpensive electrical protection

John TanMan, B&H Photo
24 April 2013
  • Excerpt: We use UPS devices on our computers and network equipment to protect from dirty power that can destroy our expensive equipment. In addition it supplies power during a power outage and we do not loose vital data or work. Excellent price, free shipping, perfect match.

Not worth the "Smart" label

APC Loyal Customer, APC
6 September 2011
  • Summary: These products (I have 420 and 620) only have serial ports, not even a USB connection and no smart slot for a network management card. They also do not seem to have a readable temperature sensor in them.

Good for Desktop Systems

27 June 2011
  • Summary: An excellent size for our desktop systems. We used the "Trade-UPS" program to replace our older 400's and 420's with the 620's. Would like to have a USB port in addition to or as a replacement for the serial port interface.

APC products are great

colin k., Newegg
12 May 2011
  • Summary: Would you drive a Chevy truck for 8 years without any maintenance, then be surprised when it breaks down? If you would, then you're probably smart enough to tell everyone not to buy a Corvette because it's made by the same company. "My truck caught on fire!
  • Pros: Excellent product. My company has one for our server running 24/7, and never a problem in 5 years. And yes, I'm reviewing the APC SC 620 model.
  • Cons: Well, the genius that gave the 1-egg review had to be offset, as 1-egg does not represent this product. She was complaining that a product in use for 8 years but only warrantied for 2 stopped working 6 years AFTER the warranty was up. Oh, and the other part- even though that review was about APC,...

Almost burned my house down

Anonymous, Newegg
3 January 2011
  • Summary: I'd rather loose data when the power goes out than have my home burn to the ground. Tripp Lite surge protection is all I'm using until someone makes a better UPS. APC taking no accountability for their flawed design is inexcusable.
  • Pros: None. I will NEVER buy another APC product.
  • Cons: Note: my actual model was a BP650S (looks nearly identical) that had served me well for 8 years. We have many storms and momentary outages in the Pacific Northwest. One night we had a series of very fast, momentary outages (like 7 in a row spanning 10 seconds). An hour later this thing lit up lik...

Intelligent I., Newegg
6 August 2010
  • Pros: Easy to set up. Tested unit, works well
  • Cons: Software is dated Uses old style com port for connection. I had to install an old card to interface with this unit.

2 July 2010
  • Summary: For the most part this UPS works very well. The built in intelligent switching is a must for the type of commercial power we receive. However, I really wish that this model came with a USB connection instead of serial.
