Protect your PC and data from brownouts for just long enough

my1eye, B&H Photo
18 June 2015
  • Excerpt: I am surprised at the increasing number of brown outs and power flickers we have been having so bought this to protect my PC from frequent re-booting and also any potential data loss.
  • Pros: Easy Set Up
  • Cons: Low Battery Power, Software

Terrible website/registration

Lyle C., Newegg
27 February 2015
  • Summary: This is the first APC product I've bought in yrs, and it will be the last. Whoever Schneider Electric is, it seems that they have relegated their UPS to a minor role in their line of electric products that have nothing to do with computers. I'm really disgusted with this purchase.
  • Pros: It's a backup.
  • Cons: Takes up a lot of space with its horizontal design. Software was not included in the box. Had to go to APC website which was convoluted and nearly impossible to navigate. So-called registration of the product didn't even ask for model number or serial number. It was just a way to get customers on...

Doesn't keep PC on

Cyrus G., Newegg
1 July 2014
  • Summary: I specifically bought this UPS to prevent my PC from powering off when a power outage occurs. Unfortunately, when a power outage occurs, both my PC and the monitor go off with it, even though I have the USB cable connected to the power supply.
  • Pros: -Keeps some devices required -Works as a surge protector
  • Cons: -Doesn't keep PC or monitor powered on

Something you should know

Nicholas L., Newegg
2 August 2013
  • Summary: After buying 2 of these and neither ever working, I was going to never buy this brand again. Then one was given to me and I tried it, and like the others the battery never kicked in.
  • Pros: It does exactly what it should.......sort of.
  • Cons: The 2 sets of outlets are either wired wrong or labeled wrong!!!

Ok UPS, some features disabled in software to upsell customers

Jesse D., Newegg
14 March 2013
  • Summary: APC should list what Powerchute features work with which UPS somewhere. I'm knocking off 2 eggs for what appears to be a blatant upsell.
  • Pros: Small fanless UPS, ideal for networking closet in your home (Firewall, Switch, DSL/Cable/Fiber Modem, WLAN AP, Atom Server).
  • Cons: APC Powercute 3.0.2 software for this UPS does NOT show the user how much power the connected devices are using. This feature is available on more expensive APC UPS systems, but apparently not here. Get out your kill-a-watt and the Watt/Runtime Graph to figure out how long this UPS will last with...

BE550 has only 1 wide plug for battery

Coalman, APC
7 March 2013
  • Summary: The BE550 has only 1 wide plug for surg and battery. Design problem because routers, DSL modem and others all have wide plug adapters. Product does not address current network equipment design.

No schematic nor Replacement parts for any APC pro

Chuckles, TigerDirect.com
13 December 2012
  • Summary: I had to buy this because a fuse vaporized when the recharging transformer blew open. Shame on APC for being so stingey to return the favor I will be not be buying a part from them but from digikey or futurlec.

When the battery DOES die

Doug E., Newegg
24 July 2012
  • Summary: I really don't want to buy an all new surge protector when I know all I need is to replace the battery. APC needs to give their customers a source for the battery.
  • Pros: Software to complement hardware; Plenty of outlets; All that a battery-backup for the right size office needs.
  • Cons: When the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore (it's dead), very difficult to locate a replacement battery.
