Summary: Through the years I have bought several of these radios as a gift for my mother. She loves listening to the radio and prefers to listen to it (rather than TV) as she does her chores around the house. The first radio broke after a fall on a tile floor after several years of daily use. After it broke, my mother told me to get exactly the same radio as she really liked it (and she had many others before this one).
Summary: We picked one of these up a few years ago and have been quite satisfied with it. I got it in at a big box store where I could try them out to see how well they picked up faint signals. It picked up more stations than any other radio that they had. I also like the fact that it doesn't require a wall wart to plug it in. The cord can be stowed or partially stowed to reduce cord clutter. It sounds just fine for the price.
Summary: Very nice little radio. AM reception is exceptionally good in comparison with other radios we've tried. We live in the mountains and reception has been very marginal using other radios. This Sony is very clear. The weather radio works very well. FM is very acceptable and the sound quality is very good. There is an attached electric cord tucked away in the battery compartment that is very nice to have when using the radio at home.
Excellent sound. No TV, so misadvertised and overpriced!

Summary: I live in a house without television and needed to be able to listen to some TV over the radio. This little Sony was expensive, but worth it for the television channels. But post digital TV, this little box gets ZERO in terms of TV signal, and I am not happy about that at all, considering I paid $135.00 to have it. That said, the sound is excellent. It's light, portable, and gets a nice NPR signal, even with the antennae down.
Summary: The only reason I purchased this radio was for the television signal feature. Stupid me. This radio doesn't receive digital signal and therefore was of no use to me. I have other radios of similar quality which are just fine. Therefore, I returned this one. Watch out for the details regarding this radio before you purchase it.

Summary: Sony ICF-36 Portable AM/FM/TV/Weather Radio Sound was a bit static when listening in the factory work place. After purchasing this radio, I found out that it will stop working w/ the change to digital signal in June. The reason I purchased this was for the TV band in the first place. I have since returned this purchase.
