Summary: I was pretty excited about this radio until I used it for a couple days. It won't stay tuned to a station for very long. The tuner dial is a little spongy and it creeps off (requiring you to re-tune several times a day). It has a nice long cord but forget about trying to stow it back on the spool and shut the cover. As far as the sound goes, it is a little bassy and distorts easily if you turn it up.
Summary: Purchased this radio for $55.00 without regret. Listening to music is fine but the tone is leaning too much on the bass side. Not a major issue because it's a worksite radio. My concern is that after you tune in a station and you walk away, sometimes the station starts to drift causing you to periodically return back to the radio. That becomes a pain after 4 to 5 trips. Otherwise it's a gem. Nice look with the lights, good reception and plays loud.
Summary: At first glance appears very rugged and looks like it can handle anything. Really like the way the cord stores and the handles make it an easy radio to move around. Sadly, the tuner will not hold a station. During the day needs readjusting every 15 to 30 minutes. Analog radios have been around long enough that you would think they could get it right.
Summary: So far this radio has met my expectations. The sound is good, FM signals are relatively stable (some drift occurs, but not enough for me to regret not paying for a digital tuner) and the bass boost others mention is not unpleasant to my ears. When playing MP3s from my tablet, I can adjust tone for any recordings that are too intense. The only complaint I have about the radio was a stiff section on the tuning dial when I first received the radio.
Summary: Very good, knobs are solid and work smoothly. The tuner knob is excellent, dials in very well. Speaker is excellent. The radio is built very solid. This radio is TOUGH!!! This is A minor detail but if they wanted to make this radio any better they could put A Bass to Treble adjust on it.
Summary: I purchased this rugged radio in my attempt to find something that was resistant to water damage, had good reception, great sound, and a long battery life. It seems Sangean made a whole line of products for exactly this. My radio came in a couple days prior to my canoe trip. I plugged it in to check it out and everything worked perfectly. It seems to have survived the several accidental splashes it received as well and operated perfectly the entire trip.
Summary: THE YELLOW RADIO WITH A BAD ANTENNA FOR HOW MUCH 80.00 TO 123.00 BUCKS FOR THE PRICE OF THE RADIO U WOULD THINK THEY COULD PUT ON A GOOD ANTENNA AND FINE TUNE THE TUNER SO THE RADIO DONT LOSE STATIONS AND THEN THEY WOULD LIKE U TO SEND 8 TO 10 DALLARS FOR RETURN SHIPMENT AFTER U HAVE ALREADY PAYED TO SHIP IT TO THEM--------- COME ON SANGEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Summary: I have had this radio for several years, therefore; the problem with the volume control that my unit has may have been resolved by now. This is a good radio, I have used it outdoors, indoors, and have taken it camping many times. The only issue I have is with the volume control, after about a year the volume control got to the point where it was no longer linear.
Summary: I bought the Sangean U-1 before my summer holiday. We needed a radio for our sea vacation. This radio has been the soundtrack of our vacation. 1. Very simple to use. 2. Rock solid and well built. 3. The handles are very strong and useful. 4. All knobs and switch are very precise to handle. 5. You can use the radio either with batteries or with AC current. 6. I found the AC wire compartment on the back of the radio very comfortable. 7. The sound is precise and detailed.
